My Carvana Experience

About a month ago I decided to purchase a 2016 Audi A8L 4.0T (I had the turbo service done already) from Carvana. I didn't really feel comfortable buying sight unseen as I'm pretty picky about cars and their history. Since they have the 7 day return policy plus the 100 day warranty I figured why not. No other A8s were available with the specs I wanted within 500 miles which is why I even considered this. The car was coming from across the country so I was going to take 2 weeks for the free delivery.

After I made the purchase the delivery wait time gave me plenty of time to stress my self out but reading horror stories about Carvana, so many were popping up that I was tempted to cancel. Luckily I stuck with it anyways. Most complaints were people not having the car delivered on time, sometimes weeks late. Carvana pumps you up almost daily about "getting excited about the delivery".

Oh and the purchase only took about 15 mins to do all the paperwork, seemed almost too easy to be honest. The day of delivery I was happy to get a call from the delivery driver that he would be on time. Also the app starts showing where your car is when in route to your home. He showed up on time, super friendly and helpful.

The car was extremely well detailed, this was a surprise as I saw numerous complaints about dirty interiors. Now this brought me to my 1st issue. I noticed undeclared damage on the rear bumper, nothing major but some decent scrapes. Told the guy, he agreed and immediately took a photo and put a claim in on the spot. After a test drive and checking every single switch I continued with the delivery believing they would take care of the bumper. It wasn't an hour later, on the weekend mind you, that I had already received approval for the bumper repair.

Issue #2. 3 weeks later I had a coolant leak, took it to the Audi/VW Indy shop I use and they said bad thermostat housing and would cost $998 to repair, oh Audi you're fun. You are supposed to use their preferred shops but found out you can take it to yours for a $50 deductible. They called and immediately had approval. Car works perfect again.

Overall this has been a perfect experience, not sure I will use anyone else after how smooth this has gone. I think it helps that this is an expensive car, most people I've seen complaining are sub 15k. Just wanted to give my experience in case anyone hesitates.

Congrats, that is great for you. Definitely makes the traditional dealership experience seem really archaic.

I bought my Model 3 from Carvana also as a mid pandemic bored out of my mind purchase. I had a couple of issues with delivery as first they realized some damage was done to the rear bumper, don’t remember if it was the delivery person or on the lot or what. I never saw the damage and they supposedly repaired it before the second delivery attempt (I can’t tell anything happened by looking at it) Then that second truck broke down so it was delayed again. I don’t remember how long it finally took to get the car but the delivery went smooth. I also traded in my C7 and while I looked over the Model 3 their guy loaded up and checked the C7. I didn’t notice any major issues with the car or had any real issues since. Plus being as the car is under warranty still never tried using Carvanas guarantee.

I thought their financing options were a total rip off though, honestly I don’t know who’s signing up for those, but I don’t recall any issues using my own financing. They worked directly with the bank. I’m not sure how their pricing stacks up against local dealers. I’ve only gotten that car from them and I wanted a very specific color combo and what not but I think pricing was comparable at least on that car at that time.

It definitely beats most dealer experiences. Although I have had some good dealer experiences also.

and ... another happy carvana experience

Hi
This is actually my first post. I bought a 2017 230i xdrive off of carvana. It is estoril blue and was the only 230i xdrive that I could find at the time which wasn't white or black. In addition I wanted the nav and m packages, too.
Overall my experience with them was fantastic. The car was exactly as advertised and in addition I got them to shell out for new front tires and an alignment.

Actually I signed up for the financing lol. It was like 3% interest so it wasn't bad. Wasn't much off of what my bank would have done. The finance people are actually very nice, they called to check in with me and let me know how all of it works. US based it seemed which was nice for a change (unlike Ally bank). I plan on paying it off pretty quick (2 years) so I wasn't worried much about interest.

I give you all credit! I wouldn't purchase a car unseen, period! But that's just me ...

I would love to hear experiences by anyone who actually returned a car there... Just curious!

Interesting, it was giving me some crazy number like 7% or 8%. I got 2.5-3% from BoA so I went with that.

It’s not sight unseen if you have 7 days to return it. While I didn’t return mine, I have returned a car to carmax and apart from them trying to get me to let them fix it I had no issues once I told them I was not interested and wanted to return it.

Well yeah, it "IS" sight unseen because you already signed a contract for the sale/purchase! The 7 day return stipulation is after the fact. Sorry, but that's a world of difference in a reality setting. Doesn't matter they take it back, it's still trouble that could be avoided when you kick the tires on a purchase prior to signing anything or spending any $ or time on a losing proposition.

I've bought plenty of new and also used vehicles, and I've done very well over the years based upon my experience and knowledge of vehicles. Maybe that's why I'm partial to seeing, inspecting, driving, touching... Prior to purchase!

Have a great day!

Not a purchase experience, but we sold my wife's 2015 Fiat 500e to them about three months ago. Got a decent offer (about 75% of what we paid for it in 2018), scheduled the pickup, person showed up on time, paperwork was straightforward, and flatbed took it away. I had money in my account the next day. So much more pleasant than dealing with a dealer or private buyer.

I know not a single person out of five that has had a good experience with Carvana. In fact, in two of the cases, the experience was unbelievable where damage had been attempted hidden.

A couple months ago I bought a 9k miles '18 500 Abarth 5MT from Carvana and it was easy. They delivered the car to my house. The car was clean as hell. Having only 9000 miles on it helped. Only issue I had was getting the final registration from the DMV, but that was because I moved a week later and didn't change my address. No complaints from me. I called them a lot and have been very helpful the entire time. The car has been awesome and fun as hell. I got so lucky finding this car and have not found another one like it since. I was able to track down the OG owner and has been helpful, too. Sent me some of the intake parts he had on the car before selling it. lol The car came with an exhaust, window tint that I removed to go darker, full PPF on the front clip, mirrors, door edge, trunk (I added other pieces). Took it to the dyno stock ran 158whp 202wtq. I installed the K&N panel filter with a silicone pipe replacement and the car definitely feels stronger. Going back to the dyno again. Tryna get at least another 30whp out of it and drop 100lbs. Sport mode adds 20whp & 30wtq from 4500rpm and below! Have to weigh it still.

This was my first used car after buying new cars for 22 years. I searched all the used sites: carmax, carvana, vroom, cars.com, autotrader, edmunds, etc. My initial choice was a CR-Z EX 6MT, but couldn't find the one I wanted for MONTHS. After switching to the Abarth 500, it only took me 2 weeks to find it.

I bought my 135i from Carvana back in 2019 and it took over 3 months to deliver (I'm also out of network so they had to get a 3rd party delivery driver)

What took so long was they said there was an issue where when driving the fuel gauge would move as the car accelerated. I knew this was the JB4 gas gauges hijack option and I tried to explain that to them but they never listened to me. Well they still sold me the car and day 1 I was under boost and then went into limp mode with code 30FF. If it weren't for my research and knowledge I would have taken it to a shop (which carvana was working with me on) but It was just a bad charge pipe elbow. Either way I fixed it and was all good.

MY only complaint is the time it took to deliver, and the fact that the vehicle had rear ended someone at some point because the front bumper had be resprayed even though there was a clean carfax. Oh well.

Nice to hear some real life stories. I’m in the market for a used car now and it’s amazing to see how many of these Carvana type services are out there now.

I've sold 3 cars to them, 2 BMW's and a Honda, and each transaction has been great. I can't believe how much they gave me for the cars too. Takes just a few minutes, as they show up, you sign some papers and hand them the title. The representative has been really friendly and professional each time as well.

I would buy a car from them if I were in the market for something used. The rep always tells me if I don't like it, she'll just come back and pick it up, no questions asked. Solid company!

My 23 year old stepson bought his car from Carvana about a year and a half ago...he wanted a full EV and chose a 2016 Chevy Spark EV, which we now call the Clown Car. He also did the financing online through them, although I don't know what kind of deal he got, as he doesn't talk about that kind of stuff with us. . In any event, the whole process for him was smooth and quick, and the car arrived on time and in great shape.

Great to hear!

Something that surprised me was FedEx delivering my actual plates to me. I don't remember reading anything about that. I thought they had been just keep me updated on getting my memorandum. Nope my plates showed up with registration, all paid for. Nice I don't have to go to the BMV.

Here are a couple photos the day after I got it. Not the best pics since I don't really take photos of my cars.
