I think that Bush has personal interest in Oil has something to do with it as well. I don't think he would hurt his own paycheck. That is he problem with Presidents, always something shady going on!

Good article. In addition to market cycles and lagging exploration, I think we have had a "perfect storm" of factors to raise oil prices, including middle east war, Katrina, and a whole generation of SUV drivers. I agree that government is neither the sole cause of nor the sole solution to this problem. That being said, I have no problem with conservation incentives, tax breaks for fuel efficient technologies and drilling for more oil on domestic soil.
