NBC bringing Top Gear to the US with a new cast
NBC bringing Top Gear to the US with a new cast
NBC has reportedly ordered a pilot for an all American version of our favorite TV show, Top Gear. Honestly as awesome as that sounds, we’re really disappointed that the show will consist of a completely new cast. However the producers are saying that it will still feature “the irreverent spirit of Top Gear.” Networks like NBC has been looking for non-scripted content since the Writers Guild of America is still on strike. The move has helped bring shows on like The Biggest Loser 5, Celebrity Apprentice, and now the U.S. version of Top Gear. “Top Gear is a proven international hit which fits perfectly into NBC’s lineup of programming with male appeal, including Sunday Night Football and American Gladiators,” said Ben Silverman, NBC co-chairman. The UK version of Top Gear currently airs on BBC America. We think we’ll still stick to the UK version. Hmm, we wonder who the American Stig will be? http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/01/16...th-a-new-cast/ I don't know about this. You can replace the Hamster, Capt. Slow and JC. Who would you get to do this? Don't get me wrong but it seems like most of the time when American TV brings ideas from Britan, theu seem to screw them up. (The Office is an exception.) Just as long as you get the right people, this show could be a hit. I love everything about the original show. The test drives, stunts and the news. At least with the US version, they would be test driving cars that we could actually get in the US and not tease us with great cars that are Euro only. |

Ugh. Every US car TV show slowly devolves into thinly veiled infomercials to promote car shops, car services, car sales, or car parts. Even PINKS is getting infected with commercialism.
I will be disappointed if that is the direction they go here in the states. |

The eccentricities of the Top Gear crew make that show what it is. I wonder how (or if) that can be replicated here. It's certainly a tall order to fill.
Hope they pull it off, becase I love that show... |

I remember when Pinks started, the guy was friendly to the drivers, it was plain-lane track...now it's a buge f'n hummer, with logos plastered everywhere, and he acts like a total dick most of the time... Oh well, hopefully it can't be any worse then the crappy Canadian car show, I can't even remember the name of it, which whore's Walmart(of all car products) with what has to be the nerdiest, host on TV... the Red headed chick that used to co-host was alright, but the new chick seems to just read off of cue cards that he must have written...which aren't funny... |

Did TopGear do a 135i review? I have seen that show a few times and it is very good. I checked the BBC website and could not find one. Maybe someone here has it.
