Anyone have Shoulder Surgery?
Were there any complications from it?
Was it successful and did it solve your problem? ---------------------- Background info: Lacrosse game against Central Michigan during my Junior year of college, I got laid out while catching a high pass. Came down on my hand and snapped the 2nd-5th metacarpals in my left hand. In a cast for 3 months. After getting the cast off and building the strength in my hand up, I hit the gym for the first time since the game and like an idiot tried to lift the same weight I was doing before the injury. On the fly machine, and hear a pop followed by immense pain in my right shoulder. After a few weeks of painkillers and rest, I go to a specialist. They do x-rays, an MRI, etc. They can't find anything and tell me surgery is just as likely to cause more damage as it is to fix anything. He says to listen to my body (working my shoulders out lightly to keep the muscle loose helps the pain, so he says to do that). It's been about 5 years and the pain is still here. Most days it's a dull irritation, but somedays to the point where it limits my mobility with that arm, and the pain is mentally distracting me from anything else. The last few days it's been really bad, with the paint shooting across the top of my shoulder towards my neck. I'm going to see my Dr. tomorrow, so they can refer me to a new specialist. Obviously I'll wait and see what they say/advise. But incase they recommend shoulder surgery, I wanted to see what other's experience has been.

It's funny I never really post on this forum. I had shoulder surgery (shoulder impingement) on my left shoulder and I recovered pretty well with no complications. There are different shoulder impingements though. Mine problem was chronic like yours. History: I work out regularly and I kind of tweaked my shoulder one day while working out. A couple of days later I couldn't really move my arm. When i tried to move my forearm and hand along my side i could hardly raise it. My orthopedic surgeon diagnosed it as "dead arm" which is basically a weakening of the rotator cuff muscles after doing x-rays and an MRI. So I did some rehab with some electric pulse machine and I eventually got all my mobility back with my shoulder but I would still periodically have deep pain when working out. One year later I noticed my medial deltoid was raised and it looked weird and felt very tight when I would lift my shoulder. So back to the orthopedic surgeon did some more x-rays and couldn't find anything. He told me the only solution would be to go in there and look around to see if he could find the problem. Sure enough we schedule the surgery and he finds that I had 2 small bone spurs as well as the shoulder impingement. Now about a year later after the surgery I'm pretty much 100% satisfied. Every now and then I still get a little bit of pain in there but for the most part it rarely hurts and my shoulder muscle isn't bulging out anymore. Sorry for the long post was just trying to be helpful

Thanks for the response, that's the kind of info I'm looking for.

I shredded the ligaments in my left AC joint (grade three separation - clavicle sticking up). Required a screw that looked bad-ass when it started working its way out and poked through the skin. No rehab and I swear that the shoulder has been stronger ever since.
There's obviously something wrong. Find a good doc and get yourself fixed.
