New York or California?
Im thinking of transferring to a college in NY or California by this winter.
I've been living in Oregon for 10+ years now, and got used to this place's relaxed living life. I want to move on to a busy place, start a new life there. Im debating between NY and Cali. Where would you guys go? Cali is cool because its still west coast.. relatively close to Oregon so I can visit my friends easily. I can probably crawl up longtran's ass and maybe get some car stuff installed too. On the other hand, NYC is cool because... its NY. I've been there before, and I really liked it. Its busy, noisy and dirty, just like my native country south korea. Opinions?

Why are you limited to New York or Cali? There are alot of nice places with big cities that are not nearly as expensive to live. If you are limiting yourself to thse 2 places, I'd say Cali just because the weather in the Northeast sucks. If you don't limit yourself, check out places like Phoenix, Florida, the Carolinas. All are real nice, and cheaper to live than NY or Cali.

Well i was in the same boat as you. I was trying to decide whether to stay in cali or leave for Ny. I chose NY. I figured if im gonna move away, go big, you know.
Cali would have been nice cause i can keep my car, drive home more often, and still be out on the west coast. But NY is so amazing, and its totally different than what im used to. I think that will help me grow and eventually benefit me more than staying here in my comfort zone. So im leaving aug 31 for ny!!

Remember what Frank Sinatra said. "And if I can make it there, I'm gonna make it anywhere."

I lived in NYC for a bit and have a love/hate relationship with that place. While I'm away, I can't wait to go back; but once I walk out of the LaGuardia terminal... I can't wait to leave. I love visiting New York, but I'd rather live in Cali; check out SDSU.

Go to NYC. What sense does it make having Winter / XMAS and no snow??? How can you possibly get into the spirit without it being cold and having snow falling and getting hot chocolate

i'm gonna get hated on here, but I think L.A. sucked. It reminded me a lot of Houston. Overly spread out, smog problems, concrete jungle. Didn't have a lot of interesting things like NYC has. Public transportation was crap, and I'm a firm believer in for a city to have a good vibe, it needs good public transportation (even if you own a car).
I, however, really love San Fransisco. It has a decent public transportation system, so even if you dont' live in SF proper (like Danville or something), you can take the BART in if you dont' wanna drive for a day. They have their little internal mini metro system too. It was beautiful, great restaurants, culture and had a cool vibe. As for SoCal, I loved San Diego, but in a different way. Its a smaller city compared to L.A., NYC, etc. but the weather was really nice. Its attraction was the relatively consistent temperature and natural beauty. If you are looking for the big city thing, this is probably not gonna do it for you. If you're looking for the big city life, I reccomend NYC. Straight up, head to the world's city. NYC and London are unparalleled in the "Big City" department. If you want an overall beautiful city, closer to home, my favorite city in the world (as of now) is Vancouver. They have a metro, they have a system of water boats, it is a GORGEOUS city, and may be cheaper for an American. Its not nearly as large as L.A./NYC so that would be up to you to decide if you want to take that route. Its big enough though, for most people. I also think the Canadian health and social systems are a notch above our U.S. systems. On the other hand, NYC is cool because... its NY. I've been there before, and I really liked it. Its busy, noisy and dirty, just like my native country south korea. I know what you mean by this. I kinda like this too. Cities that aren't busy, noisy, etc. you feel like nothing is going down, the city lacks character. Houston is like this. After a certain time, everyone just goes to bed, like 12:00. You don't have street hawkers, people running here and there... you just feel a part of a big place thats not really going anywhere. Being in NYC or London, you feel more important just by being around the important people, celebrities, billionaires, international figures, the city has a vibe.

Not trying to be biased or anything, but san diego really is a beautiful city. It hasnt reached the smog/traffic level of LA yet. Its considered a big city, but it def doesnt feel like one. The weather is the number one attraction for people that visit here. We dont have AC at my house, and there's only about 2-3 weeks out of the year that its pretty uncomfortable, and in the winter time the lowest temp it gets by the coast is about 47 (and thats in the middle of the night). However, we dont have the big attractions/nightlife like NYC/LA do. Our clubs are good, but ive been told they arent shit compared to those other places. Anyway, if you have any more questions about SD, let me know. Im a true born and raised san diegan!

Even though I've never even been to CA, I would have to recommend that any young person spend a least a little bit of time in NYC. You will definitely see and experience things in this city that just don't exist anywhere else. Despite all of the frustrations of living here (high cost of living, bad roads, everything poorly maintained, rude and disrepectful people), I still like it up here.
I will likely move in the next few years, but I will keep my condo so that I can always come back to visit. I'm originally from Philly, but I really like the NYC area.
