Sportauto Supertest : 458 Italia

Times have been released for the Supertest and the 458 did the N-ring in 7:38 and Hockenheim in 1:10.5, two times which by all accounts aren't at all shabby. Here is some rival times to see how it compares.

That's a great group of cars listed. Nice to see they are all quite competitive with each other around the track.

What I find amazing is that the Enzo is at a 7:25 on the ring. 13 seconds is a huge difference.

I love the Italia. The fact that it already beat out a 430 Scuderia is impressive.

Will there be a 458 Scuderia (or Challenge Stradale, or whatever they will call it)?

I'm sure there will be something popping up within in a few years. I can't imagine Ferrari getting any more out of that engine or being able to take out any more weight but they always do some magic.

Considering that it's equivalent to the harder core F430 Scud, that's still pretty impressive. The base F430 wasn't as capable as the F360CS on most tracks, just for comparative purposes.

The differences in a single clutch and dual clutch flappy paddle become pretty narrow when driven flat out, they're more significant when trying to act civilized, where the dual clutch has a clear advantage.

I'm certain they will, though not for a few years. Ferrari's product launch for their entry-level (ha!) V8 cars since the 360 has always been: base car > Challenge track car > spyder variant > Challenge road car. Even the F355 followed this same roadmap, sans any kind of tricked out road version.

No reason not to think that Ferrari won't do the same with the 458, and considering that they just unveiled their Challenge track car, the Spyder version is next on deck.

The question is whether or not they'll release a Challenge road version of their spyder, like they did with the F430 16M.

Think about this...the 997.2 Carrera S with PDK is only 12 seconds behind the 458 even though it has almost 200 hp less and weighs about the same and the GT3 RS with 120 hp less and a 6mt is faster than the 458 by 5 seconds.
I agree its impressive that its faster than the scud, but it still does have 60 more hp than the scud which accounts for a lot.
Both the 458 and C2 have dual clutch, so where's the advantage? My point is that a flappy paddle single clutch isn't significantly slower than a flappy paddle dual clutch. I wasn't comparing a three pedal setup to either, as both are generally equally faster than the traditional setup and have very similar or identical shift times.

The Scud has R-compound tires, while assuming the test is fair, the 458 doesn't. Put the 458 on the same tires, and you'd see the real difference.

+1. that's slower than the 997.2 gt3 rs claim of 7:33. Does anyone know if any mag as able to achieve 7:33 for the rs yet?

i'm hoping to see ring time for the LFA because I still do not think it is a 4.2s car to 60 as posted in the other thread. LOL

I reckon the LF-A will eclipse all the others, meaning possibly below a 7:30 time.

P.S.
What has 0-60mph got to do with N-ring times?
Once you have got past the traction issues off the line it's all about grunt, brakes, grip and balance of the chassis, anyhow all these laps are conducted at the starting point travelling at maximum attack mode and not standing starts. LOL

I think it does. i haven't seen a car that did 4.2s in 0-60 and lap the ring faster than 7:40, let alone 7:30.

Ha. Fair enough. Though even that model had no engine changes at all, while the 360CS and F430 Scud/16M did. I had always thought that the Fiorano was simply an aesthetic package, like Nissan's Anniversary Edition of the 370Z, for example -- didn't realize it also had suspension improvements.

I don't really care to debate Ring times all that much, but I'm impressed. The 458 is fast.

personally i love the sls amg look. seen it at the dealer 2 weeks ago and it is pure sex. i think it is the car that will continue to look good for years to come. if merc come out with a limit edition sls amg gt3 with the widebody like their race version, that would be epic.
