Side Effects of Owning 335i

Part of the reason of buying a 335i was to get the performance it offers. However, something I should have expected but didn't was people in other performance cars pulling along side looking for a race.

Hell if I was 16 again I would never turn down a challenge especially if I thought I had the upper hand.

Have other 335i owners found other BMW owners looking for a race, especially M3 and Z owners. A couple times now I've had an M or Z zip up behind me and obviously notice the 335i on the trunk and proceed to pull along side and visually signaling for a race.

It looks like the M3 guys are trying to see if the 335i will beat them and whether is worth the extra money they spent on an M. One occasion, I took the M3 up when I didn’t have the family in the car, all I can say is he could not shake me, I kept right with him.

Anyone else having similar experiences….

It's not just the 335i, but the E90 generally. I get the same thing in my 330i, and I am never looking to race. A lot of other BMW owners, G35 owners, Lexus IS owners, etc. seem to want to race me, though.

+1
I don't know if it's the new bodystyle, the M-tech kit, or the lack of badging on my car; but it seems I constantly have someone eyeing me at a red light. Being in Detroit, tends to be more CTS and Saab drivers.

did you drink before you were 21?
smoke before you were 18?

don't street race because it's a stupid thing to do; not because it's illegal.

I have never encountered anything like this with any of the cars I drive mainly because I drive moderate but my brother drives pretty aggressive and no one really challenges him either. It's just a childish thing to do in a public road anyways so I don't see the purpose of jumping to it even if somebody challenged me.

I would not argue with you that street racing today on the current roads and traffic conditions is not the best thing to do.

Without revealing my age, when I did any sort of street race, muscle cars ruled the roads, so coming up against a hemi cuda, 440 road runner or a boss mustang was a challenge that had to met. Which in most cases was a loosing proposition since we all was running small blocks, even modified you could not touch a big block. There were so few cars on the roads during those times and you could race street light to street light and not have another car on the road. As long as you didn't do something stupid or a deer crossing in front of you it was safe.

Be interesting to see how a 335i does against a muscle car, grant they are great at the straight line but turning and stopping those beasts were the real challenge.

I would say my general driving is pretty moderate too and I am never out looking to race on the street. The only time I get aggressive with my driving is on back country roads when I know traffic is low and the road conditions allow it.

I have to say I am generally a very aggressive driver.

Oh and for those who have a problem with that.
