This will be some car. It weighs roughly same as M3 but with 620bhp from a high rev V8 (8500rpm). If I'm not mistaken it's price is roughly around what the R8 V10 is in the UK?

The only thing I think will be bad is the space for the rear seats but I wouldnt buy this for rear seats.

I want to be angry at this car for being so heavy for a lotus...but its so damned pretty...so torn.

Its actually the first hard top vert that I see as being awesome looking and not misproportioned with the top up. So yay Lotus on that one.

Lets see some top down pics

If I was Aston Martin I'd be worried, this hits the DB9 right in the nuts, almost as good looking and a lot cheaper.

I hope that Lotus improve there build quality, this isn't a market segment that will except Elise build standards. The Evora suffers from a poor quality interior which is not in keeping with its price and intended market.

Which leads to my next question if Lotus successfully move upmarket what happens to the Elise/Exige? This is reminiscent of the situation in the early 70's when the Seven was handed over to Caterham as it didn't fit with the about to be released considerably more upmarket Eclat, Elite II and Esprit models.

Those wheels look really familiar

EDIT: They look like the X5/X6M wheels.

Yuck. Lotus had been gaining momentum in my mind, but this thoroughly derails that. Awful to my eyes, looks like a cross of the last Toyota Celica, a Citroen and a failed Mazda concept.

It's good to see that the game for dumbest exhaust design might finally have found a winner.

Hyundai genesis? Please don't disrespect a Lotus car by comparing it to the likes of something as pedestrian as a Hyundai. There's nothing imaginative or unique about the hyundai genesis side profile anyway, it's a clear replica of past cars. If you're going to compare, compare with the originals, not the cheap imitations.

Advanced Coverage: 2014 Lotus Elite - 2010 Paris Auto Show Preview
Lotus is set to go seriously upmarket with the 611-bhp, 3700-lb. Elite.

By Ian Adcock

Photos » Videos »

Feast your eyes on the rakish new Elite from Lotus, scheduled for an official unveiling at the Paris Auto Show on September 30. This 2+2 front-mid-engine rear-wheel-drive sports car is about as far as you can go from Colin Chapman’s original. Slated to arrive in 2014, the Elite is expected to carry a price tag of around $180,000. Designed by the new Lotus styling team led by Donato Coco, the 181-in.-long coupe weighs in at 3700 lb. and features a retractable hardtop.

Power comes from a heavily revised Lexus 5.0-liter V-8 with an epicyclic hybrid gearbox with integrated electric motors and a front-mounted Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). Power is rated at 542 bhp, or 611 bhp in the R-tuned version. Lotus predicts the Elite will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in about 3.6 seconds. The 4-cam V-8 features both direct and port fuel injection with scavenged cylinder heads and a charge-cooled supercharger.

The Elite marks the first stage in a highly ambitious 10-year, $1.2 billion program that Lotus CEO Dany Bahar says will see Lotus challenge the likes of Aston Martin and Maserati by the middle of this decade, producing 7000–8000 cars per year. “Lotus can’t survive as a niche brand,” said Bahar. “It needs to be more appealing and has to exceed its rivals with better quality, class-leading emissions and performance at a better price.”

I believe its using the IS-F motor.

Car looks really slick & nice.

Is this the successor to the Lotus Esprit?

This could be quite a risk for Lotus. Clearly, this doesn't look like another weekend track car for which they are known. It looks like they are trying to get into the luxury market which means they will have to excel at the things they've ignored or done poorly in the past such as comfort, detailing and build quality. Think about what you're cross-shopping with and you get some idea of how high the bar is.

The design looks great !

I have yet to warm up to the pipe tails though.

Looks like F trailing and R leading calipers seem to be the go these days.

Anything with 8500rpm gets my Seal of Approval.

+1. This car overall has nothing "Lotus-like" about it.

Nemesis think back to the 70's, this is a modern day version of the Elite II, Eclat, Esprit and later the Excel all were high end front engine rear drive coupes, when those cars were released Lotus were known for the Seven, Europa and the Elan, not really high end expensive vehicles, rather like the current lineup.

Why do concept designs always have stupid looking tiny mirrors? What's the point of doing that when they know they will need to actually design normal mirrors anyway?

Looks badass! I like the new direction for Lotus, I just dont like the 6-figure price tags.

Those look like rear facing cameras to me...
