I just quit my job...

...and it feels great! I've taken sales to an all-time high at my company's location. I've set 2 records with sales numbers, and my thanks is..."Congrats! Now you get to work 6 days a week instead of 5 until you reach this new objective. Oh, and by the way, that vacation that you have planned and approved for October...we're revoking it." Yeah, well, guess what? I'm revoking my decision to work here. How about that? Good luck finding someone who will keep the sales numbers where they are now.

Ahh....Sorry. Just had to get that off my chest. Today is the best day I've ever had at this job.

Quitting.... better used as a threat than an actual action... Based on what you have said, I think the company you are working for is obviously using you. But unless you have a plan B, be prepared to not get any benefits for quitting and naturally it will not be easy to find work.

Imho, you speak your mind, you leverage your success with your boss. If they remain steadfast in their decision to make you work an extra day and revoke your vacation time with no discussion then quit.

I guess it is a moot point, since you already pulled the trigger. So i guess all that's left to say is, best of luck!

^I agree...I mean it takes balls to leave like that, but in this economy right now, most people are greatful to have ANY job. It feels good now, but hopefully that feeling doesnt turn into a feeling of regret when you have trouble finding another job. Did you already have another job lined up? Hopefully you have a backup plan and good luck!

Good point, but who's to say he never tried this. Additionally, lateral moves in sales are very possible, and I know at least in my industry the more successful ones are often courted by competitors

I hope it works out. Most people don't come to terms with it, but we're all expendable. The company you left will survive without you. There may be some short term pain, but we're all quickly forgotten. Hopefully your short terms pain is shorter than theirs.

Best of luck finding a job/company that you really enjoy.

I actually got recuited by a semi-competitive company. I work (until they tell me to walk) for a company called Atria that does assisted living for senior adults. It's been horrible for months. A company who does in home health care (same services as assisted living but in the person's home) has been trying to recruit me for months. I finally gave them a lofty number that it would take to get me. They actually came back and offered me more than I asked for. Can't argue with that.

I put in a 30 day notice, as is requested by the company. They are notorious for not honoring that and telling people to hit the bricks, so I'm just playing the waiting game. I have done everything the right way and on the up and up. I don't want to leave on a bad note. I'm going out on top and with class.

Congrats!

We had the same thing happen here, guy broke my sales records and up and quit last year. Well, now we have myself and another salesman setting the bar higher, after they shifted his clients around!

Good job leaving a gravy train!

Awesome! Worked out well then..

Quitting does feel really good when you're ready to walk. I can't wait to do the same at my current job once something else comes along.

Good for you, and it take balls to do that

However, I suspect they did all that so you would eventually leave anyway. Not the first time I heard this happen. Some person comes in works their butt off increase sales, so they doubt the quota for next year, increase work time and take benefits away so the leave and all your accounts rolls up to the more senior sales person.

This happen all the time in the investment world, they hire young people out of college make them work their butt off to bring in new clients and once they think they can not do that again, the make it hard for them to stay and the top guy gets all their accounts.

Sometimes you've just gotta get out... when work situations are toxic it only makes every other aspect of your life that much worse.

Hopefully your commissions were enough to keep you "afloat" for a while.

Best of luck to you... if you are in fact good at your job like you claim, you shouldn't have any issues finding work. My company has mowed through 8-12 sales people in the last 24 months (because they sucked). Good sales people are hard to find and everyone is looking for sales talent (you know, the people who can actually sell shit).

Fuck shitty companies and their shitty managment BTW. Serves them right....

I do agree with this, to some extent. I'm the only sales person in the building, so it's not a matter of it all going to a "senior" sales person. The regional VP has a severe case of "little man's syndrome" and loves to throw his weight (no pun intended) around. I'm not a yes man. Never have been. But I'm not a barking dog either. I just do my job, keep my nose clean, and stay out of frivilous stuff I don't need to be a part of. I think it's a personal thing for this guy. I don't bow down to him, but I will do what's asked of me...until it gets unbearable. I'm up for some major bonuses at the end of the year. I think he was turning up the heat so I would leave and not get paid. His pay is based on how much money he can save the company, so it's pretty clear what's going on.

What state you live in, most state you are at will employee, as such they can let you go without notice, most do not do this but they can, as such your not required to get any notice you can not show up at work tomorrow and tell them your done. The only reason to be nice and give notice is if you think you will need them later for reference or something. Even then it not that important since the can not say anything bad about you other than to say you worked there.

this part worked out beautifully. Chances are 95% that they'll tell me to take a hike in the next day or two. Company policy says they have to pay me out the 30 days of my notice even if they don't allow me to work it. I get a fat commission check tomorrow and can start my new job anytime I'm ready, so technically, I could be getting paid from both jobs for a month.

I couldn't care less about a reference. I work in KY. It is an employ at will state. It's about the pay thing. Read the post above and it will be clearer.

Yeah you got rid of your commission check, now his pay just increased and with a little effort he can probably maintain those accounts.
