Cool Electric BMW E30 Puts Down 500hp to Wheels!

Featured on BIMMERPOST HOMEPAGE.

A Croatian company, VST Convesions, has put together this amazing electric 1986 E30 323 conversion. Owner Mate Rimac showed up at an EV builders forum to announce that he wanted to build an extremely fast electric car. Looks like he has done just that.

The VST E30 BMW is faster than the Tesla! It's good for 12.1 in the quarter mile and lays down 500 horsepowers to the wheels through its bi-moto powertrain.

The car is painted in a custom green color and has graphics which resembles that of the BMW 1-series ActiveE car.

But Mate Rimac isn't done yet. According to Autoblog Green:
Quote:
The 1986 E30 323 BMW that serves as the test bed for VST Conversions has already seen its motors swapped and batteries upgraded. The current configuration features a pair of power packs using Headway cells sending their juice through a Zilla controller to a Netgain WarP11 HV series DC motor capable of pumping out over 500 horsepower at the wheels. The next incarnation should include a new battery pack, a different motor (probably) and will take advantage of a custom two-speed, zero shift transmission to help deliver some serious horses.
Check out the great videos below of this monster "green" E30 (including footage of it racing a Tesla Roadster)

You still not going to convince me to go out and buy an electric powered vehicle. I dont care how much HP it has or how quick to the quarter mile.

so you don't care what the performance is or how much it helps the environment? you refuse to own an electric car no matter what? does that sound about right?

That seems a bit closed minded to me, im for all cars as long as they look good, and have great performance, no matter what the energy source powering them, even Doc Brown's grbage fusion cell...This 323 is sweet, lets hope that when electric cars are commonplace they perform this well.

it might be zero emission but it s also zero emotion.

I don t care how manny supercars it wil beat. A car needs to give emotion and electric is far from it.

I can't help it but i love the sound and feel of a gasoline engine,
and i know I'm not the only one. Just look at how many people change out their exhaust just for the noise.

You are a small crowd within an already minority crowd. No car company cares about your opinion because you make a rather poor economic proposition for them. Not being hash just being real. Like it or not, the world will change, and your beloved cars will eventually be destined to extinction and junkyard heap.

I know, I know, sometimes people start to sound like the guys back in the Penny Farthing era refusing to accept motorcycles saying they will have it no other way than a self peddled bike, and the hell with the powered bike. And look where we are now. Sport bikes and all.

What is the range of that thing anyway? Anyone knows? I think that is the true limiting factor. Just imagine 500hp/700ft\lb tq available at 0rpm at tip in. Now that is one hell off a way to paint pavement black.

Fuck that. No self-respective automotive enthusiast wants an un-tunable car with no noise, no gear shift, nothing special about it. A well-made car that inspires feelings and affection is nothing short of a piece of art. A hollow, mass-produced tool of conveyance is a disposable consumer product, to be used briefly and then tossed in the landfill when the next iCar comes out. You buy one, and I'll buy the other.

The power is there, its just not being delivered correctly yet.

Gearing will help fix the 1/4 mile with increased driveability through gearing.

Need to be a little more open minded.

A lot of negative criticism in this thread....

Everyone sit back and enjoy the video, its simply something new, if you dont like it watch oprah its on at 4 PM I think.
