What should i do
Ok,
So Ive been on this forum for over 2 years when i made up my mind to get a 335 as my next car. My current car is a 2006 Lexus es that my in-laws gave to us with 32k at the time it now has 64k. (its paid off) its an ok car there are no problems but the warranty will be up at 75k.(my father in law got the Extended warranty) est. probably at the end of the year. ok so this is the issue... my wife wants me to hold on to this car for another 2-3 years before i can get the 335. The lexus just feels so cushy and disconnected and my daily obsessing for the 335 is not helping we can afford it but im calling on you guys who have been down this road and what you did to convince the wife (or hubby)when it was time.. Thanks |

Man, I know I'd happily take my pop's Bentley if he wanted to give it to me.

Your in laws gave you a car? That's awfully nice of them lol
but if you sell their gift and get a new BMW wont you look like a big duche? Obviously you couldn't afford a car so thats why they gave it to you right? |

Bentley > low tier Lexus
Free car from your father > Free car from your womans father I mean I'd feel emasculated if my womans father was trying to give me a car. Last edited by JayKay335i; 02-26-2011 at 04:21 PM.. |

Are you seriously that insecure or just busting on the OP? I'd never turn down free money. You'd be stupid to do that. Doesn't mean I'd keep the car, but I'd accept it with a smile and a thank you. I don't care if it makes me look like an asshole if I sold the car the next day because then I'd have more money in my pocket then I did the day before.

everyone's e-penis is huge online.
Can't blame you for taking the car, but you also put yourself in this predicament. In order to be able to convince your wife to do the trade....it's completely dependent on the situation with your in-laws. If they're the type to 'judge' then suck it up...buy another car straight instead then and have 2 cars. Or just wait a bit. If they're truly accepting and 'cool', just trade it in. It's most dependent on that. |

The way to avoid it would be saying "well, I just want a weekend fun car" and pick one up. |

I'd just be a man about it, and tell her parents your intention and let them know full well you acknowledge their gratitude for the help with the Lexus, but your ready to move on. It would be a bit immature of them to think less of you for doing so. They chose to give you the car, I'm assuming with no stipulations attached, and it's now yours to do as you please. To me it's a sign of responsibility that your ready to take on something else, and something that should be respected, not seen as an act of selfishness. If they agree, and your finances are in order, I see no reason why your wife should oppose. |

I know I'm heading into Manhattan but I'm not sure whats going on. A couple friends called me and just said to be ready for them to pick me up. My cousin also just got a spit in the city so hopefully I can manage to catch up with her at some point too. So ya know, slwhores and shit. Drop the Dr. line a couple times.
I met some girl last night that was ridiculously cute. She was studying nursing or something. Cant remember her name. FML. Feisty bitch. |

Just how long have you had the car? If you've had it for a couple of years already, then it probably wouldn't matter to your in laws since its not like you took the car and turned around and sold it. You've put 32k miles on it so it shows how much you have appreciated their gift, but they shouldn't expect you to keep this car forever just because they gave it to you. I don't know how to convince your wife, maybe you could do European delivery and take your wife with you and label it as a vacation for you guys. But if you have had the car for a couple of years then you have every right to trade it in for a 335.
