Washing Jeans
i have heard from alot of people that they use salt water only to wash their jeans the first time before they wear because they say the clolor can stay longer and things like that. do you guys do that too? if yes then how do you guys wash after the initial wash? some of my jeans i usually wash them only when it gets really dirty cause washing them with soap will mess up the color.

I hardly ever wash my jeans. Yes it sounds dirty I know, but jeans shouldn´t be washed too often. They´ll fade and end up looking dull and have a bad fit.

best option: don't even wash it
alternative: wash inside out without detergent detergent is just for the smell....so just spray some perfume kinda thing on it when you wear it.... |

???? Inside out? Hang them to dry?! Vinegar?!
Just throw them in the wash after you wear them. They'll last years. Buy a new pair when you don't like them anymore. They're blue jeans, not a silk blouse. All whites (and underwear and blue jeans) together in hot, all else cold. Red clothes separate. Do you iron your underwear, too? (Rhetorical, please please don't answer) |

wash them only when you really feel they need a wash. in between washes, hang them to air them out. if they need a slight refresh, use some febreeze.
washing them: machine wash inside out in cold water. hang dry.

Washing Them: If you can, do not wash your jeans...wear them til theyre stanky. Then, you can either rub a dryer sheet on them or spray Febreze. But, if you must wash your jeans -- and, no more than once a month if you can help it -- do it either by hand, or machine wash them inside-out in cold water with mild detergent. Some people suggest dry-cleaning jeans to keep them new-looking, but I find the chemicals change the indigo. True jeans aficionados would never dry-clean their jeans. They know better. I personally do the I Love Lucy wash in the tub, like Im stomping on grapes....And never put them in the dryer. Let them hang to dry. - Christine Rucci, co-founder/designer of 5EP I never wash my jeans ... so not much help here. Scott Morrison "I don't wash my own jeans. I always start with a pair of raw denim and wear them down to what looks washed naturally. A washing machine removes the top layer of indigo and speeds an aging process that I do through normal wear over 2-3 years. I have known denim aficionados in Japan to stuff their jean pockets with dryer sheets overnight to absorb odor. - Donwan Harrell, owner/designer, Prps If you have a garden, hang them outside for two days to clear them out. I wash them when they get dirty. I don't bother with cold, warm, or hot water. I don't turn them inside out.
I say, "WOMAN, MY JEANS ARE DIRTY. WASH THEM NOW!*" Then when they get too faded, I go buy new ones. * Do not attempt. Professional at work on closed course. Damage to your jeans, your car, your ego or libido are not the responsibility of the author. Also, get ready to buy a lot of flowers. |

I never put that much thought into in. ...just wash the damn things when they get dirty.
I have some costly pairs and the regular Levis, Unionbay, etc. What's all this cold water, inside out stuff? ... WTF is going on?! a bunch of Martha Stewart *ussies on here!

Most people wear raw denim for at least 6 months before the first wash. Then you wash them every 2-3 months. As for general jean care: I wash them when they're dirty. If I do nothing but sit around the house in them... they can go forever. If I wear them out to the bar, they'll last 2-3 days. When I do wash them, it's always on cold, inside out, and hang dry. In the summer, I open up a window and hang them infront of that overnight.

Incoming or outgoing?
BTW, that's a play on the use of salt.

first wash...alone with no other clothes except for other new jeans you may have bought at the same time.
Then wash always with cold water and minimal detergent and turned inside out.
