My dad went a little overboard for my birthday...

So, I turned 22 on May 1st. I'm actually waiting for my 328i x-drive from a special order. My dad (who has been sick with cancer for the past two and half years/basically everything fell on my shoulders(the cancer is all gone now!)...and is feeling really thankful for all of the things i've done) surprised me with trading in our Jeep Wrangler which no one used for this guy. It's a 2011 4runner trail edition. He was originally going to get me a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7 but i freaked out haha. I told him that the GC is way too similar to our ML500 and if we are trading in the Jeep we minus well get something similar, not to mention it was 10 grand less and 4runners hold resale awesome! He then told me to make sure because it was going to be my car! What I love about this 4runner trail is that it has an awesome 4wd system, water resistant seats, a nice suspension, big sunroof/rear trunk door window goes down- my dog loves it. Long story short, I feel like a complete brat who is spoiled rotten but I don't drink, do drugs, spend thousands of dollars on bottles at clubs...and I really do feel like i'm a 50 year old guy, haha. After the past couple of years, not knowing what was going to happen, to having my dad embrace my car craziness and being in good health... it really is a good time in both our lives. I hated the 4runner limited with all of the plasticky chrome shit, but the trail looks a bit more rugged and has a great ride height. I love the retro looks of this new 4runner. When I grew up, we had an fj40 and an fj55 so this car is pretty cool to me. Anyways, just wanted to share with you guys. Can't wait for my space grey 328 to come- but the new 4runner is helping ease off the anxiousness I'm actually shocked how many people have complimented this car, too! It seems to draw a lot of reactions and attention.

Congrats! That looks like a really solid machine. I am sure you will enjoy it.

I like to see a 4WD with appropriate wheels and tires for a change.

Congrats! My pops' 4Runner ('98) has 310,000 on it and all he ever did was change the oil. It started as a lease and I used to take it off-roading and beat the shit out of it. He ended up buying it out and I felt bad but it seems to have been completely unscathed. GREAT machines.

Thanks! Yea it is nice having him healthy and active. I had to take two individual semesters off of school at different times, and do one part time. Since fall of '08 he's been in 4 hospitals, 6 rehabilitation centers, and 3 nursing homes. While he was sick, I basically took his place. From Bills, to errands, coming home once a week to clean the house, taking care of all of our pets, driving him to appointments, setting up different doctors or rehabilitation practices to grinding 23 medications two times a day for him to take via feeding tube. It's been a long and unpredictable road for him and my whole family, but we have all moved on. Cancer is a pretty scary thing.. I was pretty uneducated about it until my fathers diagnosis. Btw, our ML500 was his car for his Dr's appts.. we bought it new in June of '07 and to date it has 92,000 miles... no problems...it's a great car.

Oh Nice, I was just in Marstons Mills last week on my way to the Mashpee Commons. I love driving by that old grass airport by the rotary! so cool. My dad bought a new construction in the South Dennis history district about four years ago. Before then, we lived on the South Chatham/South Harwich line. I went to Chatham High- Class of 54 kids! haha

I was being facetious. I always get a good laugh when someone posts something on a forum and the only response is a grammatical correction. I mean, come on! You're not the only one though... don't worry.

Incredible and uplifting story for all of us, particularly given your age. I applaud you for the maturity of your past choices, and hope you enjoy the 4runner, as you certainly deserve it! I used to own a RAV4, and while it doesn't quite compare, that thing was incredibly reliable. I drove it through everything: blizzards, ice, rain, even (in college) from Boston to Key West and back during spring break. If I ever move out of the city, I'll definitely pick up a 4runner or a RAV4 again.
