The Next Best Thing
finally getting bored of the m and thinking about getting a new car.
thinking about either the new m5 or new cls63. personally i prefer the looks of the cls over the m5 any suggestions for something around the same price range? i was thinking about the panamera turbo or cayenne turbo just to give porsche a try but can't justify the price. 135K for a car that looks like a egg plant. no thanks cheers

I'll go with the m5 but the cls is not bad at all...it's the best merc that money can buy..my dad has the old one and it's pretty good in every way and that's only the cls500! The panamera and the cayenn are the most ugly cars in the market...if you want a porsche buy the 911!

I'm not a BMW brand kinda guy. This M is my first and next car would probably be a porsche. So I'm not biased by any mean but this Mercedes looks HIDEOUS to say the least. I was gonna lose my breakfast when I saw the pictures.

A hands on and a good test drive will give you the answer (it always works for me). After all you will be driving the car for the next few years therefore as you well know you are the final decision maker. Both cars you mentioned are good, then there are some others worth taking for a ride as well. I find some (not all) test drive reports quite helpful.
In the end you will make the right choice. PS. 2 cars back I made some wrong choices (from a e46 M3 to a e85 Z4 2008 then changed to e89 Z4 2009 - finally back to the M3) hope you don't make the same wrong choices as I did and spend a pile of dollars unnecessarily

Agreed the new CLS doesn't live up to it's former self in the looks department, which is a shame as according to Mercedes around 2/3 of buyers bought it purely on looks. However I'm not a fan of the F10 that much either. In the end these will be two devastating ways to skin a four door cat.
The M5 should be driven though before deciding. You might not want that nagging feeling once all the reviews poor in that maybe you should have given it a closer look before declining. Now, I think you should take a step sideways in thinking and consider the Jaguar XJ Supercharged. If you need a little more oomph over substance the XF/R is worth considering, but compared to the F10 M5 and CLS63 is long in the tooth. The XJ on the other hand is new and notable. For an entertaining look at the XJ google the top gear episode where Clarkson races the sunrise across England. Season 16. (EDIT: this worked 'top gear jaguar xj sun')

i actually happen to love the looks of the Panamera, and if i had $ 150k to spend on a car right now, and i needed 4 doors, i'd get a Turbo S...

DO NOT like the Panamera (believe it is one of the most arkward looking cars) and for me the CLS is not far behind either

I think you're just over your 6MT E90. Why don't you switch it up and get a DCT E92? M3 is a beast, you just have to find the one that fits you best. CLS is garbage. You will hate it coming from an M car.
F10 M5 is a great option though...

I drove the CLS63 BiTurbo at the AMG track event... honestly wasn't that impressed. Thought it was going to be a monster. If I were to take a step up, it would be one of the following:
Porsche 911S,GTS,GT3,Turbo GT-R That's it.

Frenchdreamer.....it is ironic about my dislike for the Panamera since I really would like to own a GT2 or GT3-RS (ownership of either will depend on the success of my planned bank heist). While there is a strong "family" resemblance for all of them, the 911 look just does not work for me on the 4dr Panamera. Yep, I do need a 4dr which is why I just got a E90ZCP, not to mention I happen to like the looks of the E90 over the E92. Besides my 2dr coupe needs are covered by the car pictured <<<<<.
