Helicopter crash at 34th street heliport

I just watched this happen. I was writing an email after having just gotten home and I watched the helicopter go right into the water. Absolutely heart stopping. I hope these people are ok...

We had a 60 drop in the water when I was on a cruise once. All four crew perished and one who they did recover alive was rushed in through the hangar bay to medical with so many compound fractures I don't think I'll ever un-burn that image from my mind. Helo crashes are brutal. I don't know what's a safe altitude to autorotate with whichever helo you saw crash, but I can't imagine that was an option.

I hope they're ok.

It didn't get too far off the pad before it started spinning and then just splashed... They have pretty serious footage of the people being pulled out... none of them looked "okay"..

Helicopters... They don't fly, they just beat the air into submission

Helicopters... Just a bunch of loose parts flying in tight formation

I grabbed a bite to eat at home and was writing emails as it happened.. Just cause I am at home doesn't mean there isn't work to do! heh. Definitely more comfortable at home though..

I'm reading two critical, one serious, one treated at the scene, and one unaccounted for?

That's what they are saying on the local news. This happened 100 feet from one of the largest hospitals in NYC. After the copter went down, there was a police helicopter dropping a diver into the water within less than 5 minutes. Boats were on the scene literally seconds after the diver hit the water.
