Thumbs up Love the new anti-smoking ads

I for one think they are brilliant! In this day and age, if you smoke, you're an idiot. Plain and simple. There's no "subjectivity" when it comes to smoking. It's just plain dumb. I always shake my head when I see young people with the stupid stick in their mouth or hand.

I don't think any less of a person AS a person if they choose to do something as asinine as smoke but the decision to smoke is a conscience one knowing full well the risks of doing so which unlike the "risks" of say, skydiving, they aren't so much "potential" and more "assured". And for anyone saying that "life is short" and you may as well enjoy it while you can, I've seen firsthand my father in law with a tube coming out of his throat and nose, drugged to numb the pain and completely helpless and miserable in a hospital bed until his flame finally snuffed out. Pathetic but it shows that those commercials aren't making this shit up.

You smoke? You don't? Let's hear from you.

I don't smoke. I find smoking cigarettes out dated, ugly , and incredibly annoying.

I'm totally with you on that. I see people confined to little outcast "smoking" areas and I don't see Clark Gable looking suave. I see people killing themselves.

I am one of the lucky few people who can smoke cigarettes and not get hooked. I used to smoke a pack a day for 2 years and then just quit one day and had no withdrawal, weight gain, nothing. Didn't smoke for a few years after that, picked up the habit again for a few months and dropped that just as easily. Smoking is not cool, it yellows your teeth/face/hands. You smell awful all the time. If you smoke in your car, good luck ever selling it. i just see no positives about smoking.

I too fall under the same catagory where I don't have the addictive gene. I smoked for awhile a few years back and quit one day just like that. No biggie. Others aren't so fortunate I guess.

im a smoker, i used to smoke 3 packs a day back then, i slowed down to possibly 4-5 a day, i want to quit but i noticed i get annoyed easily when i dont smoke for awhile. im thinking of quiting cold turkey because now i want to workout and smoking killed my stamina i cant even run a quarter mile without almost dying for air. those ads dont really help because if your addicted only you can stop yourself from smoking not an ad on tv

im only 20 by the way.

Have to vaporize or you are still inhaling cancer-causing tar. Granted, smoking a hit or two isn't the same as sucking on cigs all day.

Smoked my first cig at 11 - no bs. Never took though, still can't stand them. Smoked cloves off and on in high school, but can't do those regularly either.

I agree. In Brazil, tons of people smoke and they have the most disgusting shit on packs you've ever seen. Pics of cancerous lungs and shit...nasty.

I started smoking when I was 14 eventually getting to about a pack a day in college. I quit when I was 30; I got married and figured my wife didn't need me to up and croak on her. Well, I started again when I took on a high-stress job 5 years later in 2008, going to 1/2 pack a day.

This past October, I started using a electronic (i.e. toy) cigarette. Did the whole step-down thing from high levels of nicotine to none, and I haven't smoked a cigarette since. Granted, the cartridges with the moisture that create the vapor are made in China so I may have been trading the cancer-causing chemicals for mercury, lead and God knows what else.

Quitting was a bastard this time, but I'll be off the e-cig in about a week. The work thing will also be fixed this week.

Well you say this. But my great-grandfather lived to be 107 and smoked everyday of his life.

I dont smoke cigs. But I do enjoy a cigar every once in a while with a nice glass of scotch - well that and the old shisha pipe

So I guess thats a yes?

I could be dead wrong on this but 100 years ago I don't think they put all the poisoneous additives in cigs that they do today. Your great grandfather dodged a bullet back then and he never would have seen that age today.

Just a hunch.

I hate those ads .... heaven forbid someone says "sh!t" on TV, let's blur that out, but it's perfectly OK for them to flash to footage of open heart surgery while my kid is right there - gotta love the censorship in this country.

I smoked for 5 years and I can tell you with certainty, if I still smoked - those ads would do NOTHING to change my mind.

Those ads are about as pourposeful as all those "quit smoking aids" out there - they all exist for the same reason: So the smoker has something to blame other than him/herself when they fail to quit.

If you wanna smoke, smoke - it's a free country . That's my opinion. I quit about 5 yrs ago.

Everytime I see one of those ads it honestly makes me want to go have a cigarette, although I do agree it is a nasty habit and I have an addictive personality, I plan on getting one of those electronic cigarettes to help me ween off the stogies. I know a few people that haven't smoked a cigarette in months even years and they all owe it to their e-cigs, so thats reason enough for me to give it a try

When are they going to start the same type of ads with an obese person surrounded by mounds of deserts and donuts?

Not trying to take away anyone's freedom. I just love the fact that they have an "in your face" approach instead of simply saying "it's ok" by virtue of saying nothing at all. The whole "Truth" movement has just as much freedom as big brand tobacco.

What gets me is all the prime time commercials for the Trojan vibrator lol
