Do yall use a Tripod most of the time? I just dont see how yall get such good pics I cant hold the camera steady worth a damn, any tips?

At twilight or night I use a tripod. Not usually during the day.

Image stabilization helps. But just because you don't have a tripod doesn't mean you can't improvise one.

I've posted this pic before, but what I didn't say was that I improvised not having a tripod, by resting the camera on... a trash can. Yes - my favorite picture from last year was taken by setting the camera down on a dirty bin. The only change I needed to make when I got home was a few degree's straightening in photoshop.



Oh and it's a 30s exposure too.

I too don't really like tripods. Sure they can hold an image steady but I hate traveling with pretty much anything. I too use trash cans or other things if I really need a steady night shot but usually I just go hand-held. A few tips. Look at the farthest edge you can find. ie Where the ocean hits the sky, or where the mountains hit the ground, or another straight angle. Then take a deep breathe let it out and shoot. If you really mess up or if it bothers you photoshop does help.

I use a tripod / mirror lock / remote ..... its the best way to get "tack sharp" photos right out of the camera. Also if its windy out remove the strap on your camera while shooting on a tripod as it can catch the wind and shake the camera.

Image stab. lenses are great for day shooting and hand holding. If you have a image stab. lens be sure to turn the stab. off when shooting on the tripod as it can actually make the pics worst since its looking for shake.
