Just picked up a new toy on two wheels a few days ago. Have only gotten a chance to ride it a few times but wanted to share a pic. More to come soon, just snapped this from the garage so I'd at least have a picture.

I was in Italy recently for 2 weeks on vacation with the family and I was surprised at the lack of luxury cars, including BMWs. I saw lots of cheap, small cars from brands I'm not familiar with.

Rome especially looked like a borderline 3rd world nation to me, although thankfully they did have a couple of Michelin starred restaurants there to make the trip worth it (sort of).

The driving was atrocious over there as well. It's basically anything goes. Nobody stays in their lane (hell, there aren't even lanes on non-highway streets). Everybody tailgates. Nobody ever really stops for pedestrians. You kind of have to walk in front of a car that's coming at you @ 50+ MPH and hope they slam on their brakes. It's not a place where tourists (especially those accustomed to the driving etiquette of the United States) should drive.

The museums and historical landmarks are great, but I was disappointed with everything else. Apart from Michelin star restaurants, the common cafes/restaurants were a huge disappointment. Really pedestrian food.

i was refering to BMW bikes, Beemers, lots of very nice X 6' s in MIlan, can't imagine a NA bimmer owner coming back to find his car sandwiched between two crappy cars a mm from each bumper. But parking here is insane , not sure how some people extricate their cars from their spots. I have seen lots of brand new Bimmers with some nasty dings, and with the yearly tax they pay on cars here almost not worth owning a nice car. The scooter riders are insane here , but in three weeks have not seen a single accident.

That was a good assessment of Italy, Back in Rome now and it is pretty much as you describe it. I was referring to beemers which are BMW motorcycles. it was sad to see lots of nice new bimmers in Milan , large number of x6's already scraped up and bruised by the tight parking habits. it was expected that if you parked your car , that when you returned you would find a car parked in front and rear of you with no more than a few inches to spare. Almost not worth owning a nice car, i could only image the mayhem in NA if we parked this tight. Parking by braile was very common and scooters would be resting on car trunks or boots. Although the driving appears to be erratic, and the scooter , motorcycle riders insane, I have not seen one accident .

Thats most of europe chief! Only exception being UK (from where I have travelled). I have recently been to Spain and the Netherlands and both were hugely disappointing. Spain was the more affluent (at least where I was), and I probably saw like 3 S classes while I was there.

In Amsterdam, the cabs are the late model E,5,A6, S, Q7s and the private cars are small electric vehicles or tiny hatchbacks . No traffic sense whatsoever and a very disgusting city.

The funny part is that I grew up in Bombay India and that city feels worlds better in all respects. Also, it is not uncommon to see ferraris, Bentleys, RRs etc on the roads.

Thanks for the compliments all. Sounds like we have a lot of people here on two wheels as well. I've only had time to put about 30 miles on it so far as we're in the middle of moving, but it's been great. The bike has lots of character.

Funny enough I had the same experience in Italy when I was there regarding traffic. I was about 22 years old and was traveling with two girls from college and decided we'd rent a car to go from Rome to Napoli. I made the reservation online from America with Hertz only to find when we got there Hertz wouldn't give me the car because I was 22, not 23. I was kind of pissed because that should have been something to figure out while making the reservation. In any case I found a hole in the wall place that rented us a car.

The drive to Napoli was fine and the highways seemed to be okay, but Napoli itself was a freaking nightmare. One-way roads were not adhered to, parking was a cluster, and people used their bumpers like feelers. I found some nice hotel and just told the attendant we were staying in some random room, even though we were like a mile away in a hostel. We had planned on having the car for 3-4 days. Next day I drove it back to Rome, and took a train back to Napoli.

France would have been similar. Germany on the other hand had awesome roads, and a ton of nice cars. I saw more Ferraris and Lambos in London than any other place in Europe, Italy included. Don't think I saw any there.

Nice bike! I had a 2002 Troy Bayliss Replica 998, but didn't ride it because it was a collector's item, so i traded that for a brand new 2012 Hypermotard 100sp. That was the best bike I've ever owned. So much fun, unfortunately I hit sand in a turn and crashed that bike. totalled it less than a year after getting it.

I decided to not replace it and just keep and ride my 1971 Harley.
