I have an early 90s ford ranger...

it is my Beater/work truck/etc
it is in OK shape all things considered for a 20 year old truck

I am starting to form some rust at the bottom of the cab

I do NOT want to invest too much into this thing... I know I can sand, grind, weld, etc new panels in, or take it to bare metal and use body filler... but that all seems like too much work for a vehicle this old... call me lazy

I am just looking for something I can spray on (like spray paint) to help slow down the rust or prevent more from forming.

I know of products like POR-15, but that seems more for prepping the area for paint or body work it seems?

thought as to what I can use to help?

----i realize the somewhat irony in posting about a 20 year old ford truck, on a car forum dedicated to "premium" vehicles, but know a lot of you on here are "car guys" and am sure many have delt with older cars and rust problems (perhaps just not as must as you would find on the honda civic forum ) I did post on a Ford forum, but wanted as many opinions, and diverse answers----

Aren't 20 year old ford rangers disposable? Just throw it away and get another one. Jk. Search rust inverter or ask autozone and they'll find you one in spray can form. Then just find some primer and spray paint that semi matches your paint and go at it.

I think you can get a 6 pack of rangers at costco

I think the "rust inverter" is what POR-15 is? or same concept atleast...

the POR-15 I couldnt find in a spray can...

guess that would be the easier/cheapest way to stop or prevent more rust? what about using that stuff on the underside of the truck?

I used POR-15 on my F-150. The shit is useless. Just sand and spray paint, it will do just as good.

Cheapest way would be sanding the rust off and putting bedliner in a can on it. Not the best way it just depends how much you want to spend.

Hello people. I can never let my car rust that way! I try to clean my car as much as possible. Does POR-15 really work? I doubt. My friend used it and is still searching for something better. You can so through the following post. Very simple and easy to understand. Just a few easy steps mentioned here, will allow you to prevent metals from corrosion.

A lot of people on other sites (some geared more towards older cars) really like POR-15, and have theorized that many of the unsatisfied users aren't properly prepping the area to be treated. A few have had bad experiences, have gone back, followed the instructions correctly (and did a quality prep job) and had great results.

I'll be using POR-15 on the floorboards of my 66 GMC soon, after I strip the metal, weld the holes, and then follow POR's pre-cleaning regimen. I can't say one way or the other yet how it works, but so far I have seen more positive examples on resto sites regarding the product than negative ones. Much like painting, two people can use the same can of paint and have wildly varying results.

Looks like someone already used filler/Bondo over the rust. The only real fix is to cut it out and replace the metal.

What makes you say that? How can you tell if someone already bondo'ed over it and painted? I don't really care if that is the case, I more or less just want to stop the rust from getting worse.. if it stays that same thats OK pretty much,...
