CPO 328i E90 or 2014 320i?

As some of you might have read in a few of my threads, I have a black on black 2014 320i with the sport package and 8 speed on order. Production started 12/20 and who knows when it will actually get here. Before I ordered the 320 I was looking all over for a 328i sedan with the sport package CPO and they are unicorn rare. Couldn't find any, or couldn't find with the color I wanted. I've driven that exact car and I liked it but the 6 speed step isnt good as the 8 speed in IMO.

The other day I saw a 2010 CPO 328i for sale at a dealer in Orange County. It is loaded, premium package, nav, sport package, etc. and has 50k miles on the clock. They're asking $22999 and its warranty is good until 100k miles or May 2016, then whatever happens is on me.

I wasn't going to buy again this time around and wanted to lease for a while. We've leased for my wife and its been a breeze. I don't really want to deal with a surprise $1500 repair 2 years into having my used 328i. If I put only what I was going to pay drive off for the 320 down on the 328, my payment would be about $380 a month. After 5 years of that, the 328 would still be worth about 10 grand w/about 100k on the clock.

My question is this: would you go for the used 328i or the new 320? Ive driven both and the 320i feels punchier and quicker around town because that 200lb feet of tq they both share comes on at 1250 RPMs and is flat, vs. coming on closer to 3k in the 328i. The 328i has more HP and you can feel it on the highway but I don't feel the 320i is lacking overall in power, personally, and thats coming from a stage 1 GTI. The automatic in the 320 is superior. Handling wise, the e90 prob has as light edge, both would have sport package. I can tune the 320 whereas the 328i I get what I get. The 328 will average about 23mpg overall whereas the 320 will get far better MPG. The 328i can do 0-60 in about 6.3 while the 320 can do it in about 6.7. The I6 sound is really nice. Two totally different engines.. BMS Stage 1 could give me same HP as the 328 w/far more torque.

So Im leaning towards just waiting it out for the 320 to get here but am slightly tempted by the 328i. Starting off with 50k miles though... Could be a lemon despite being CPO. Those I6's tend to be pretty reliable though. And it is loaded vs. my 320 which I ordered pretty stripped down. BTW, my dealer required no deposit to order my 320 and he said I have 2 weeks from when the car arrives to come pick it up before they take my name off the order and sell so if I really wanted to back out, I could. I doubt I'll do this, but I just wanted to get peoples thoughts.

BTW: a used F30 328i is not in my price range currently so it's between the e90 328 and a new 320.

Thanks

I am sorry, a 50k mile used car, I am not feeling it at that price.

Had you found something special, like a E90 6mt MSport 328 with 30k miles for under $25k, that would be a great car, maybe more so than the new 320.

I would go for the new car if it has what you want on it.

Go with the new 320i. A 2010 car is getting pretty old at this point, and will be nine years old by the time it's paid off. That's like making your final payments right now on something that is a 2005, how does that sound? Not to mention the E90 is not aging well. The E92 still looks great, but the sedans, not so much.

I really don't see any benefit with the 328i. Much older, a LOT of miles, a worse warranty (CPO warranty isn't as good as bumper to bumper), a little more power and little better 0-60 at the expense of low end torque and gas mileage. The I6 would be nice since it's N/A and is a well-balanced engine, but you won't have to worry about turbo problems if you're leasing the 320i anyway.

Go with the 320i, there's just no real reason to pick the 328i other than getting a few more options, but any tech options in the car will be pretty outdated anyway at this point, or for sure when you are done paying off the car.

^^ yeah, pretty much. This all stems from me getting impatient with waiting for the 320 to get here. At least the next one I can order when I have 2 months left on the lease so there is no time w/out a car. I'm pretty sure also that if you are leasing another one, they'll either extend the lease on the current vehicle til the new one arrives or give you a loaner. I'm guessing by the end of the 2nd week of Feb the car will be here. I'm currently in a Chevy Cruze rental.. Yes, I know. I'd rather not talk about it.

Your money, your car, your decision. I personally would get the 328i. My wife has a very similar one by your description. We purchased it for a comparable price from the dealer, not with CPO but 3 year, 36k warranty. She absolutely loves this car and so do I! By the way, nothing dated about it. A lot of people thought it was brand new when we got it about 6 months ago

Because you can get that same car for a good chunk off barely used with all the bells and whistles, but that's not in the appropriate context. Warranty alone is a huge deciding factor for me so definitely the 320i. Also you are comparing two different generations. Why go with the old gen when you can have the new one. If money is an issue then it's a different scenario, but otherwise I think most people will tell you to stick with your order

^^ That's what I did

http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=933870

Ive driven my wife's friend's E90 328i w/sport pkg and 6 speed auto and the 320 is better in every perceivable way. If the F30 is supposedly 'bloated' now and has 'lost it's 3 series mojo' it hasn't translated to the 320 because this thing handles like a boss but the ride is much more comfortable than the E90
