I paid $10K in one year for my best pal. He had knee surgery but also visited the vet throughout the year for other illnesses. Worth every penny and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I do recommend Care Credit if your vet accepts it. It sure helped me to pay it off.

I wish you the best of luck and a quick recovery!

The people on this board that are bashing people willing to sell their car, belongings or whatever to help their pet should respect their feelings. What may not make sense to you, it makes sense to someone else. It's like if someone gets bashed for putting thousands of dollars into their car or their house. Some people may think that it's a waste of money to do that. It's their choice so just respect it or STFU. Some people look at dogs as just pets and some don't.

I've had pets all of my life and was heartbroken when each one passed away. Now, I don't put my dog on the same level as my daughter. But he is a family member.

It. Is. A. Dog.

To the OP:
Your situation sucks, and I don't know much about your personal life, so you may have your reasons for going through with the therepy. In any case good luck, it is a tough decision either way.

Here's an update, Brian is doing VERY WELL!!! 9 Radiation Treatments down and 10 to go. He's not bleeding out of his nostril for the first time in 12 weeks. The radiation seems to be doing it's job and the Dr is Very Happy with the results so far. I took him for a 2 mile walk this am and he was so happy!!! We'll continue the fight and beat it! Thanks and we'll keep ya posted

I got dog health insurance myself so I would never have to choose.
So do I, VPI with their Cancer rider and , it doesn't even pay half. Don't get me wrong, it helps a lot but, don't think you wouldn't have to make a choice due to you having pet health insurance. VPI is the best one out there. Just an FYI, no offence intended.

I have been a pet owner for many years. Ive had 2 Great Dane's, 1 Irish WolfHound, 1 Saint Bernard, 1 Rottweiler, & 1 Neopolitan Mastiff, not all at the same time mind you.

In terms of cats, 3 Abyssinian's, 1 Bengal.

It is so so hard to lose a pet. All of my large dogs died very young, they don't tend to have long life spans. Usually 10 years or less. I have 1 Abby, & he is still around, he suffered a bowel perf a few years ago. I spent nearly $13k in treatment. It was a long & tedious process. Looking back, I'm not sure I would go through with it again.

Modern medicine can really do wonders, but only you will know if it is worth it or not. I lost my Bengal this summer. I brought him into the Vets on a Tues. We, myself & the Vet, thought he was not going to make it out of the office that day. Long story. Oscar was suffering from thyroid & heart problems. I brought him home, he was so sick. I knew that evening it wasn't fair to him to prolong his suffering. I went into work on Wed knowing that after, I would have to bring him over to the vets to be put down.

It is the worst feeling imaginable. I must say, if we could only be so lucky to pass away in such a peaceful manner.

I know we could have allowed Oscar to live for a bit more time. I'm sure with additional meds & treatments he could have gone on for a little time. But, I just couldn't do that to him - he had been such a loyal companion for many years - I could not let him continue in pain. It seemed selfish to me.

Please understand - each person has their own view on this - and no one is right or wrong. I'm so sorry you are even having to deal with this.

I hope for the best for you and your dog. I hope my post does not come across was being preachy - certainly not meant to be - just wanted to pass on my experiences.

Regards

Frank
Thanks for sharing your experiences with me Frank, I appreciate all your feedback. Brian is doing very well and the therapy seems to be working.
