Apartment wall, the closest outlet is about 3 feet away... What's a good price range for an electrician to do the job?

I had three new electrical outlets installed with their hardware and cabling, by an electrician for $120.00. That included an automatic $35.00 service call fee.

No easy answer or a standard fee if this is a retrofit type of situation where the wall needs to be cut and power brought from some existing source (other outlets, light fixtures, etc.). The variable is the amount of time it takes to do it depending on the logistics involved.

Best to do is to get several quotes and have them break down to material vs. labor charges (How many hours at what $/hr rate). That's the only way you can figure out if someone is being fair or not.

Apartment, as in you are renting?

I'd never do this to a place I didn't own because of the expense. As mentioned it'll definitely depend on where the power has to be brought from.


Also depending on the building code for multi-dwelling units in your city it might have to be enclosed completely in conduit which will make it $$$ because you'll have to cut lots of holes in the wall/ceiling to install the conduit whereas you could theoretically fish a bare cable (though difficult) between the wall studs.

I do lots of my own electrically work and I can tell you some times doing something like this is very easy and other times you ask yourself why you even bother trying. As it was pointed out, there is no simple answer. Also the fact you do not own it, most likely a License electrician will not touch it without having approval from the owner of the apartment. For 3 feet run an extension cord.

If you don't know how to do it yourself, I would recommend you just hire a handyman for that. Probably $50 labor (an hour labor) and $10 for materials.
