What are the purposes of a traffic camera?
Natureboy made me remember about a question I had. Im in Santa Ana and traffic cameras are really annoying especially having the anticipation of coming up to one on a clear green light knowing it will flash at the moment where you must decide whether to stop or to go. If you run the red light as I have seen, then you will be flashed daytime or nighttime. Some nights on some traffic lights, why are they off? Why doesn't it flash or take pictures when you're over the speed limit? Are they sometimes just for show?

Revenue. That is the sole function of traffic cameras.

Why do cops set up speed traps? Why do speed limits change randomly in areas that are exactly the same? Why?
Well 2 reasons. As stated to make money and to supposedly make the roads safer.

I would put money that they do not make roads safer, in fact, I believe they cause more accidents. I've seen some people do some crazy sh*t here in my area by these lights. I've seen accidents caused by people slamming their brakes too late and drifting into the intersection to people slaming into others trying to get out of the turn lanes.
It's purely profit generation. If they reviewed these things they'd know (not that they don't already) how bad they are. Obviously, the intention is to make roads safer, but I have a hard time believing that line of BS from what I've seen over the years.
