Seriously though I would save up more money because with computers you get what u pay for and a 600 dollar comp... I wouldn't see lasting over 2 years (well depends what your using it for ) Anyway good luck on the hunt.

On a more serious note, computer advice on the internet tends to be either one of two things. Incompetent and narrow minded or offering you far more than what you need. There is no reason to custom build a computer when your budget is $600. You have plenty of great options as you are the major consumer desktop market. Building your own machine when you really aren't into it will only cause to aggravate you and while it isn't entirely difficult to do, it can be tedious and frustrating if you have any issue or get something wrong. Not to mention that you will feel up a creek when you try to boot it and the system doesn't POST, since you've already invested time and money into the project and have no on-hand support. (Unless you have a geeky friend who can be pried away from Diablo 3 long enough to help.)

That all being said, there is some good advice in this thread. But for your own sake don't build your own machine for this. It's most likely unnecessary.

Yea, I don't know much about building a computer, always thought that was for the W.O.W. and Diablo 3 ner..ahem gamers. I agree, advice online in general can be hit and miss, but thanks for the sound advice.

I'm gonna look more into the ASUS comps. Specs seem decent for the price.

If you want to buy a pc, either build or get Asus. Asus oem's a lot of computer parts. Chances are if you open up say a dell or up desktop the motherboard will have Asus written on it somewhere. Asus's are awesome bang for your buck also.

hmm have you checked out any Acer laptops?

I've had an acer aspire for about 3 years now, the only problem I have with it is my screen not being able to light up, I dropped it once and it started pinching the wires until it cut them completely.
(hooked it up to a monitor and use it as a desktop now)
They've got OK specs and usually are not too heavy, battery life isn't all that bad for normal browsing etc, (not sure how long it would handle music playing)
