Pretty weird perhaps silly. When you are driving, analog push or dial seem much better choice than sliding or touching.

Not a fan! Looks a bit too crazy to navigate through menus. Nice 80's theme going on!

Besides, BMW are cooperating with Apple on the SW side of things, and i find it hard to find a better companion than that, having used the Iphone for some years, and enjoying the intuitive and smoothness. So reserve judgment when we see how it's implemented and in actual use people.

Its sort of funny or ironic how car makers add so many distractions and at the same time so many safety features to save you in case you get distracted and endanger yourself.
All I want is to drive a simple, well built car, not a gadget. |

All I know is the new navi in the A8 with the touchpad is amazing. Touchpad does wonders for navigating through menus. If BMW and Benz want to follow Audi's lead, then more power to them. It only adds features for customers.

For me all led, and flickers and other pom pom are just nonsense. When comes to BMW I want a good, well built, proper drivers car. |

Let's not forget this video is from a supplier and not BMW. Who is to say the supplier isn't just trying to generate hype about the technology to get BMW to buy it.
I can't really think of an instance where this would be significantly better than the idrive knob. More finger prints on things and less tactile feedback aren't exactly on my want list. It doesn't automatically have to be more distracting than the idrive though. If all it's doing is replacing the up, down, left, right functions with swiping your finger across the knob it's not so bad. However, I think the knob already does a good job and has an advantage in the respect that you don't have to relocate your hand when you want to navigate and/or select. Who knows maybe BMW will come up with some awesome application for it we haven't even imagined yet. |

Actually the more I've thought about this, one spot I think touch technology could be kind of cool might be replacing the buttons on the steering wheel. At that point you could customize the button layout to your liking and the possibility of having different layouts based on which idrive screen you have open at the time is also there.
