Lightbulb Would you consider...

Buying a Mazda MX-5???

What are your opinions on the car??,... I want a convertible, a roadster but the Z4 is expensive for me right now and I drove an MX-5 and it is very fun to drive and very responsive.

Just want to hear some other opinions.

I like the Miata, but it was a little cramped for me (6'2", 200#). Have you thought about a used Z4 instead? An E90 and E85 would make a nice pair on the driveway, I think.

Stole the words right out of me
You can get a used Z4 (2 or 3 years old) with low mileage in the low 20's. Or maybe a used S2K?

A used Z4 should be close enough in price to a new Miata that the thought of buying the Mazda shouldn't even cross your mind

keep in mind, many were purchased new at up to 8-10 grand under sticker(many weren't, but many were)

I bet you could pick up a really nice used one for $25-28k

Miata/MX-5 has bar none, the best shifter out of any car out there. Better than any shifter found in any BMW. It literally feels as fast shifting as an F1 paddle. basically just like "snick snick"... real fast and smooth.

Steering... great, handling.... great, acceleration.... average, size.... small

Miatas have always been very fun cars to drive. They've always been tarnished by their looks and low stock power, and people make fun of them, but they are drift/track monsters and extremely fun cars to drive.

If you don't mind saying "Yeah I drive a Miata", I'd highly reccomend getting one. A very underrated car that most people don't know jack shit about.

Also check out the Pontiac Solstice and like someone else said the Saturn Sky is pretty damn decent... the guy who laughed doesn't know shit.

Out of those 3 I'd definetely choose the MX5 though.

great acceleration?! what were you hiding under your miata's hood?

Z4 is nice yes, but for a track car, I'd probably take the Miata. For an everday cabrio use kinda car, i'd take the Z4. I just feel the Miata is so well suited for the mountain road or track use, even stock!

How about the warranty of used vs new?,... I'd love a Z4 it is just that a used one might not have the same warranty and also the maintenance cost is super high compared to the Miata, am I right?

if you get a CPO car you get the 6 yr 100k warranty and can still get the $500 CCA rebate

even the slowest Z4 is over a second faster to 60 than a Miata

the miata is flat out a dog, slower than an E90 325 by quite a bit!

New Saturn Red Line MSRP: $29,175
New 325i (when was avail): $29,800 (if I remember correctly)

Hmmm...A Saturn plastic POS that runs 1s faster than the 325 zero to 60, or a nice, sedan...

Not sure, but for me , the choice would be clear, although two completely different categories...

Now, the s2000 MSRP is $34,200, but again, the choice is clear...

miatas are kind of gay IMO .... I think the S200 is a better choice and you you can buy a nice hardtop for it for those days you want the top up.

I don't know what it cost to run a Miata, but a Z4 - even out of warranty - shouldn't cost much to run as a 2nd car. Mine hasn't.

I'll be the guy that goes there. Only consider it for 2 reasons.

1. If you are a girl.

2. If you are gay.

LOL

OK, I'm not a girl and I'm not gay,... not that I have something against, I just ain't.

I get the point and I agree as it to be a second car,... I won't use it that much and warranty from a CPO will help, and yes I believe it is a better "every day" roadster (The Z),... still the Miata has it's goods!
