3D printer project- need your opinion
I'm not sure if you guys know about 3d printers but they basically print out 3d objects for you. They use plastic and print out real 3d models of whatever object (depending on the design) that you want. So my question is, if you're able to print out things that you can use around the house (for artistic reason or just home improvement), would you be interested in it?
Any reasons as to why you would or wouldn't want one? Please elaborate. |

Well they're just for prototyping purposes, and the component(s) that are printed can't typically be "used" for anything other than such; most certainly not for the purpose of what the given invention was designed for.
But aside from the fact that they're expensive machinery, I don't see any reason why people wouldn't want such a thing. They're pretty cool after all. |

Yeah it is a pretty cool machine. They are like pretty expensive right now but prices will come down. I'm wondering if those machines become more affordable (say in the $500-600 range), would people be interested in buying them to use in their hobby or art & craft projects.
Here are some examples of the things you can do with such printers. Last edited by BMW F22; 10-06-2012 at 11:55 AM.. |

3d printers are good for prototyping (mostly you print the molds for your tools and cast the real tool off of that) and modeling for architecture presentations (like i often do).
there are printers that use plastic and some are starch that you bind with resin. the new ones that a science channel show featured could print tools that you can actually use right from the printer which I assume is not going to be consumer friendly in terms of price anytime soon because they were designing it for use in space. if I can afford a good sized 3d printer (maybe 8x8 at least) I would get one. also check out laser cutters. you can build so many cool stuff with these tools.
