How often do you call people out on BS to their face?
So I pick my car up from the body shop today. M3 rep front fits great but the pollen is terrible here, so i go to have it washed...
There's an middle aged guy there dressed casually sitting near all the employees in a folding chair holding a price sheet, so i go up and tell him I just need the car body washed, no inside and no wheel wash. He responds, "oh i dont work here man." Whoops. I laugh it off and apologize, say i didnt mean to assume anything but i saw the price sheet. He says "yeh you dont get to drive Benzes by washing cars" and points to his SL 500 I compliment him on the car and he starts bragging about it. "Yeh its an 08. It has 565 horsepower and goes 200 miles per hour" SO, one, this guy's a stranger, and two had just I assumed he worked at the car wash, so I fought my urge to and bit my tongue. How about you? Have you ever called someone out or bit your tongue about an enormous piece of BS? Automotive or otherwise? |

It sounds like he just corrected your mistaken assumption.

I just let them have their fun. I usually feel bad that they feel they have to do that.

I'd call out BS if it's important. Otherwise no need to rain on someone's party, or potentially waste your valuable time debating for the next half hour. Ironically, correcting him seems just as low as the BSer himself IMO.

This is why I love smart phones. If it is something worth debating, or I'm bored, or I dont like the person I'll pull up some info really quick and show them that they are wrong. Happens a lot being around Marines. I don't know why, but there are a lot of Marines who are pathological liars or they just believe everything some other guy told them. When I know for a fact that someone is wrong and they refuse to accept it, I love pulling out my phone and showing them a credible source to shut them up.

Honestly I know people that like to correct others all the time and it's annoying as shit. It's like a contest to them to see who knows more. Most of the times I'm just thinking "who the hell cares?!!?" So unless it's important, there is no need to always be correcting people.

Honestly there are more annoying liars and if the world had a liar-to-correcter ratio of 1:1, it wouldn't be such a sh*tty place to live in. Just sayin'... Americans and their love for misinformation. You have the iPhone and Google and people just don't bother to learn.

Correcting unimportant BS is the same emotional pat on the back that the BSer was looking for by starting the BS in the first place. Be the bigger man and let them be. Quote:
