Destroked 2004 STi makes 618whp/490lb-ft
I found this rather interesting. 2004 STi has a 2.5L, but this tuner destroked it to make it a 2.35L.
Check out the redline: Power starts falling off after 8750ish, but damn! Last edited by whats77inaname; 06-25-2013 at 03:03 PM.. |

Granted, but that's not the point *lol*. The focus is on destroking to achieve more hp. I can think of a handful of STi over 600hp, and they're all on the EJ25, not on the EJ20.

destroke adds more boost volume and you can rev higher, depends on your end goal...

I know a shop that builds rally cars in Squamish BC, they de-stroke all of the STi, I think the shorter stroke obviously helps to rev higher but with the decreased rod angles it reduces stress making them more reliable. They also use the JDM 2.0L heads if I am not mistaken. One of friends has a WRX wagon built by them....it's crazy quick I likely didn't pay as much attention to his build list as I should have...

Ah, here we go, finally got a good lead. These guys build destroked engines http://www.maxwellpowerservices.com/
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1941158 520/447 whp/tq on 92 octane @ 21psi. Apparently they have quite a few builds spinning 9K rpms and up.... LOTS of good info in this post, as well. Definitely provides some options for the STi Last edited by whats77inaname; 07-01-2013 at 02:20 PM.. |

This is nothing new. Evo guys have been using destroked 2.1 or 2.2 motor and spinning it up to 11,000 rpm. This obviously opens up powerband for large turbos. I'm not sure what kind of fuel was used in the sti, but 618whp isn't that impressive with GT40 series turbo. Great car nonetheless.

And unlike Evos, high hp STis aren't that commonplace, so for an STi, regardless of the turbo size, 600+hp is a pretty significant achievement. |
