Computer monitor wont turn on, going to throw it away unless...
I've got a 17 LG LCD monitor. It's served me well for 5 years and is now 8 years old (2005 build date).
I recently tried to use it again after a few months of no use and it won't work. When I connect the power cord, the screen will flash grey for a second and then go blank again. This happens every time I initially try to connect the power cord. I'm ready to write this thing off and throw it away as I assume the cost to fix it will be $20-$40.00 in parts (best case scenario) and for that price, I can get a larger and newer monitor off craiglist OR a brand new monitor for just a bit more. What say you all? Is there a possible DIY/easy fix or reset? Or do I have the right idea to throw this off the roof of a 6 story parking structure and videotape the impact for a stupid (but possibly entertaining) VINE video.

It is time to let go,
Everything must have an end Your monitor must go to monitor heaven, where it will always be plugged in and shall never encounter a faulty video card that can shift blame for its own demise. If you love it, set it free. Goodbye, 2005 monitor. You shall be missed. |

Throw that piece of junk away and upgrade yourself to a 27" 2560x1440 120Hz PLS panel.
Your brain will fucking explode at the number of pixels and eye-melting colors...all for the low low price of $280. |

Love these suggestions. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I seem to have fixed the problem.
All I did was disassemble the monitor, shake the shit inside it around, and re-assemble it. Now it turns on again. She lives! (The right) My setup:

It's great that your ancient monitor lives on,
However, being in a BMW forum, you have the wrong background, perhaps this was the problem all along. |

Dude, stick setup. Your usable space is much bigger. I may have to make some changes to my workspace. I wish IKEA had the black color wen I bought my desk.
I used to have an SL600 with upgrades. Got rid of it only because it was out of warranty and I needed a back seat. Not gonna lie, the 335i is a great car, but the twin turbo V12 is an entirely different world. Especially with software.

This coming from a guy who loves BMW as much as the next guy, but I have respect for those vehicles where respect is due. The SL600, any year, deserves that respect. |
