Galaxy S4 Active or another iPhone 5?
So I have had iPhones since the 3g, I've had the 3gs, 4, 4s, and 5. Now I have no iPhone, or smart phone for that matter and I am debating whether or not I should continue with my iPhones considering I know how to use them and they seem to be the bench mark. I have never had a droid, it seems that droids depreciate super fast and have more issues but that's why I am posting this.
It is between another iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy S4 ACTIVE (the one you can get wet). That is pretty much the ONLY one I'll consider other than just getting another damn iPhone. Simply because I don't have to babysit that phone, but will I regret it if I get the Samsung? Why? Why not? Feedback please.

No issues with my Galaxy S4. I don't have the active one, but it's basically the same.
I've owned every iPhone as well (even the 5). Had lots of battery issues with my 5, so I decided to switch to the Galaxy S4. No issues at all, yet. A couple of apps will freeze every now and then, but that happened on my iPhones as well. I like being able to customize my phone a lot more, but you can do that with a jailbroken iPhone as well. It really comes down to personal preference.

I don't know why you're limiting yourself to just the S4 active as an alternative, because you are probably going to need to babysit the delicate iPhone even more, which is strange considering that you want the S4 active which you don't want to worry about. Anyway, if you're happy with the iPhone, I don't see why you should not stick with it. Just wait for the 5S which should be released in October in the US market. I've actually had androids since around its debut with HTC and I'm pretty bored of it now. But that's just me and I know others are fine with theirs.
I have the regular S4 and its a wonderful phone and packed with features, so the S4 active will be great and possibly a big upgrade from your iPhones in terms of sheer features. But it is so ugly compared to the regular S4 that I wouldn't even consider it personally. Expect a downgrade in terms of tangible quality for most android phones (bar the HTC One which is also worth looking at. Maybe wait for the HTC One Max which is the phablet version) when compared to the beautifully designed iPhone. I don't use 75% of the features on my S4 as most of them are useless to me, just by the way. If you're looking at water/dust proof phones and you are bored of your iphone, you should wait for the Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami), since it's an extremely powerful phone, dustproof, waterproof, has a 20 mp camera and will soon be Sony's new flagship. Expect it to debut on the 4th of September. I'm going to be upgrading to the new iPhone 5S when it debuts, or perhaps a Nokia Lumia device btw. I've experienced too many androids that lag considerably, including my new S4.. I hope that I've helped.. |

My S4 screen cracked on the inside. Its a somewhat known defect, samsung refuses to fix it and Verizon told me to kick rocks. Will cost $250 to have it fixed, luckily I have AMEX and they will just credit me the $250 back.
Avoid the S4 and the shitty Samsung customer service and get the HTC ONE or even the new iPhone. I have never had a iPhone but everyone I know has one and the customer service at Apple is legendary. |

We are at a point where IMO there in nothing really new or innovative coming out on any of these phone. So I stick with the iphone because that is what I have been using since since like the 3G and I'm use to it. It works and it syncs with all my apple stuff. There is no effort required to stay with the iphone and there's no incentive to leave and go to android. So yeah my point is if the iphone works for you then I would just stick with it.
Now if samsung can come out with a phone that will also give bjs then maybe I might consider switching.... maybe. |

I'm due for an upgrade and was leaning toward HTC One or Samsung GS4. However, I'm going to wait to see what Apple has in store. IF (BIG IF), they offer something nice I might consider staying. Otherwise I'm jumping ship. I have a 4S now and it's been fine (few glitches here and there but nothing major).

For anyone looking at the Galaxy S4 Active, do a little research on the differences between it and the regular GS4. You do sacrifice a few things to gain the ruggedness of the phone. Things like an LCD rather than the Super AMOLED screen with noticeably different colors, 8MP camera instead of the GS4's 13MP, and a different exterior case. Depending on your priorities for a phone these could be deal-breakers.

i have the galaxy s4, and love it. i had a droid dna before this one and it was awesome too. For me it would be between the s4, htc one, or the dna again (verizon). the note2 is just too damn big of a phone.
i had an iphone 4 (skipped the 4s (same damn phone lol) ) was waiting on the 5 to see what was released and just laughed. Ditched the iphone. Iphones arent what they use to be. Android is dominating in every way possible. edit: i also find it hilarious when people bring up the materials & quality on the phone and they go and put plastic and rubber cases on them (all my iphone friends try to get me with the whole "plastic phone crap" lol) |

I like iOS system but the iPhone is really outdated. Maybe the 6 will be worth considering. The 5S will just have internal upgrades - nothing major. What the iPhone really needs is a bigger screen. I have already listed my iPhone 5 for sale and my new Samsung should be delivered next week. |

I think Apple is really stepping it up on the iOS 7. I am using iOS 7 on my 5 right now and it feels a lot like Android.
I would switch to the new Nexus 5 but I am too addicted to using iMessage. 80% of all the people I talk to uses iMessage. |

I find that people with hardcore beliefs one way or another on this subject tend to be very similar to those who are hardcore Democrat or Republican. They tend to be reactionary, illogical, folks who have tunnel-vision. This leads them to ignore the obvious because soundbites and emotions dictate their beliefs.
I've owned both Android and iOS devices. I prefer Apple's software because it works well when you have many devices connected. I also find it's superior from a UI standpoint (especially OS X). Their customer service is similarly exceptional. I run Windows 8 via Parallels and a dual monitor setup on my iMac, so get the best of both worlds from a desktop standpoint. Their hardware is also superior to almost all other manufacturers (both desktop and mobile) IMO. This isn't to say that I hate on Android devices. I'm a centrist and, as such, acknowledge that people are different. We all have our preferences, requirements, and POV's. What works for you might not work for me, and in an interesting and diverse society it probably shouldn't. Live and let live. OP, make your own decision. It's not like there isn't a wealth of information on the 'net concerning this subject. |
