I really do like the new design for the new mustang. However, it kept me thinking about all the existing designs today that appear to be very similar to the updated front-end. Below is what I quickly pasted together.

I believe it's due to some crazy Euro law requiring front ends to be designed to be pedestrian friendly when they are hit. Not sure on the specifics.

The more you limit designers on what they can and cannot do, cars will begin looking more and more similar.

Not sure why everyone here rags the Mustang interior. Most people here would wrap, plastidip or dye it anyway....

What part of the design, other than the Mustang emblem, is retro? My biggest gripe is that the front looks like a Fusion.

This statement is hilarious. Aston Martin has had that front end for 50 years - the fusion uses it for a year and a half and people are calling it the Fusion front end. Poor Aston.

Ford introduced a redesigned 2005 model year Mustang at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, codenamed "S-197," that was based on the new D2C platform. Developed under the direction of Chief Engineer Hau Thai-Tang and exterior styling designer Sid Ramnarace,[51] the fifth-generation Mustang's styling echoes the fastback Mustang models of the late-1960s. Ford's senior vice president of design, J Mays, called it "retro-futurism." The fifth-generation Mustang is manufactured at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.

Quoted from Wiki.
Now moving to the next gen mustang...it is an evolution, not revolution. Still holds the "retro-futurism" design cues.

I read somewhere early on that Ford was moving away from that design.

To quote Agatha, "DO YOU SEE?"

You didn't answer my question. They may call it that super duper retro futuregasm, but I still don't see any retro design cues.

The whole thing looks retro to me, that is why I don't like it. Not really any real departure in the design, just a sleeker look. I thought we were getting a clean slate design. Time to lose those retro mustang tail lights.

I am starting to think my expectations were unrealistic. I wanted a Mustang that didn't look like a Mustang. If that makes any sense.

Are you not aware of the first gen mustang ('64 - '73)??? This is exactly like the last gen and continuing into the next gen mustang.

Maybe they should just kill the mustang and bring back the ford probe.
