I hate incompetence.
Sadly, it seems to be the new norm.
We received notification from the Sec'y of State's office today that Wifey's vehicle registration has been suspended because our insurance company notified them that we cancelled our liability insurance back on Nov 11 and we've failed to prove that we've insured with someone else in the meantime. First I've heard of it. Our insurance is and has been in full force and fully paid. It's an automatic payment from our checking account and they've been taking it monthly for years. The state wants proof of insurance and a $100 fee to reinstate her registration. Needless to say, this mess is going into the insurance company's lap tomorrow morning.

Pardon my ignorance, are you in the USa?
Why is auto insurance in bed with the secretary of state office? How do they suspend your car's registration? Its something you pay once a year. Suspending your DL's is the norm. However, a private company has no business telling the Gov you have insurance issues...... "The first time they knock, they take your registration(gun). They never knock again"

Oh yeah, I'm in the US. In the most corrupt state in the nation. Although MA was the same way with insurance. Cancel your car insurance and the DMV gets notified.
I didn't cancel or change mine, though. But I'm the one who has to straighten things out now.

Incompetence is the daily norm which is pretty sad because the majority of people: professional or customer service do not give a **** about much... and I see it trickling down to our youth.
Sad state of affairs to say the least.

Maryland has the same system if you drop your insurance and do notify them of new insurance they will not cancel your registration the DMV will just insure you themselves for something like $3000/yr and when you go to re-register your car they will hand you the bill. Even if you can show you have got insurance at during that time they will make you pay.

When I bought the C300 and the X5 and Z4 went away, they took Wifey's car off its own policy and added it to the C300 policy (to save money, I guess). They notified the DMV that the policy on Wifey's car was cancelled, but failed to tell the DMV that it had been moved to the other policy.
My agent says he can just send them a note and a copy of the policy covering her car and all will be forgiven and forgotten. I have my doubts. Last thing I need is to get nailed for speeding or something and have them impound the car because the registration is still suspended. Definitely need to follow up on this one.
