Fun with Chemistry
We're filming some chemistry demos for use in high school chemistry classes. I brought along my new Sigma 120-300 so I could stand back out of the way and grab some stills. This is what happens when you ignite a very small, hydrogen-filled balloon. I'll update this with other images from the other demos as we go along.

I remember doing similar chemistry experiments in high school. We did this and also filled balloons with acetylene (sp?) which filled the entire school with black soot. Our teacher got quite the talking to after that one.
Oh the good ole days....

I didn't have him for chemistry but there was one who liked making and using nitro in class.
The back wall of his class had a billboard of a BMW R70/80 or 90. Always used to look at that bike. Should take a video of that and slow motion it.

Our video guys were there with a 60D. 60 FPS max speed, so we'll see how it turns out. I caught these at the 5D MKIII's 5FPS, so maybe they'll get enough frames to run it slo-mo.

Here's what happens when you drop an appleseed-size piece of potassium into a pan of water.

When my wife took chem in college, her lab partner didn't read the whole lab and dropped a chunk of sodium into water. They couldn't find any of the beaker.....

We did sodium also, but it was kind of a dud. No flames or pop. Just a sizzling chunk skittering around the surface of the water.
