If it's your dream job then yes, do it! Get rid of that pricey apartment and dog, well...you'll get over letting the dog go eventually (I know, easy for me to say).

My dream job involves me taking a pay cut. Hopefully I get it next year. Money doesn't make me stay with a job, the job itself, does.

Do what will make you happy. Think 10 years from now, do you still want to think "man, I regret not taking that opportunity".

Exactly, everyone always touts say Googles unbelievable benefits. I know many people who left. First of all, the long hours. Secondly, the intense degree of competitiveness. Sure, many of us are used to it when we come out of college and grad school, but it gets old when you are 30.

I have to manage "older" people, it's just the way it is today. At first I really didn't like it. Those folks never would have imagined having a boss 12-18 yrs. younger when they were young. Luckily, many of them knew they were gonna get axed and don't take it personally. They were smart and planned ahead, saving like there were no tomorrow, keeping expenses down, knowing that at 50 they would lose their jobs, and they say their time is way more valuable than their paycheck, and that they were prepared. Then you have those who were living it up like it were 1999 and start crying etc. because their 7 series lease payment and house payment means living from paycheck to paycheck....

Truth is when you work for someone else, it really is employment at will. When you can't make money for your employer, you're gone without a second thought. Many of us are young here today, but we'll face the same thing when we're older. That's why I don't want to overspend and always want to save today.

I'll just say it again, everyone who drives a BMW should be maxing out the 401k to the IRS limit, and if not phased out, ditto for the ROTH IRA. If you're not, the only valid excuse is you don't have a pulse...

Yea at some point you hit a level where just because Job X pays more than Job Y doesn't mean its necessarily a better gig. My motives for taking the new role are more based around the type of work I will be doing and the networking and experiences I will have rather than because it pays more. Which it does lol but that's just an added plus.
