I know Sonoma Raceway has a variety of driving options, including driving/racing school but I don't know if they do drifting specifically. You may want to take a look there.

Buttonwillow to far for you? they have drift events, you could call them to see when the next one is.

Norcal does have a drifting scene you just need to get in the right mix, show up at some of the events meet people, and I am sure they would be happy to help you, sometimes a 5 minute ride along can do amazing things.

If you want very good advice on starting to get better and better control of your car, find and empty lot, start with tight doughnuts and as you feel its smooth start opening up wider and wider keeping a perfect circle, then change it up to an oval pattern then try figure 8's and slowly go wider again.

another way is to start a wide circle and start speeding up till you start loosing traction and learn when to start the counter steer.

Thunderhill Raceway has a drift area and events. Thunderdrift also hosts drift events. About 2 hour drive from SF.
