I stopped by Ocho Rios on a cruise ship a few years back. It was nice, but I definitely like a lot of other islands in the caribbean better. The locals in Ocho Rios just seemed pushy as hell with the tourists, almost to the point where I needed to get into a fight to tell someone that I didn't want to take a cab ride or buy any weed. I have been to a lot of islands in the caribbean/bahamas and I enjoyed my stay at the other islands a lot more since the people were a lot more friendly and laid back. Maybe Carnival just stopped at a crappy port or part of town, but I wasn't too thrilled with that part of Jamaica. I need to check out Aruba next, I hear that its nice to visit and relatively cheap to stay there. Anytime I take a trip down to the caribbean or bahamas I usually end up staying at Paradise Island, but that place has gotten way to expensive over the past few years.

^^ Unfortunately that can be the norm around port areas, vendors/cabbies know tourists are only on the island for a certain amount of time and try to capitilize the most - and also let's be honest alot of the time people are looking for weed. On the other hand in areas away from the ports like Montego Bay, Negril and even hotel resorts not nearly close to the port in Ocho Rios vendors are much more relaxed and know tourists will be around for many times up to at least a week and so there isn't as much of a push on customers.

*Aruba is beautiful - I've been there myself and highly recommend it, and I'm sure since you said you were a traveler you might have already but Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic are plus for me but my #1 is prolly Cuba - you can apply for visitation from the gov't or get there through a secondary island (like Jamaica *hint, *hint - lol) but yeah one of the perks of having dual citizenship

Thanks for the info. I have been to the Cayman Islands and the beaches/ocean there were some of the best that I have ever seen. Snorkeling at Grand Cayman was awesome, and that island was VERY clean... I liked it a lot. I've never been to Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic before so I still have plenty of places left to go, but I have heard that Puerto Rico is a beautiful place also. Its kind of funny that we can't vacation in Cuba, but my cousins from Italy vacation there!!! I was pissed when they told me that since we are so damn close, but can't go there because of all the political crap.

ohh god the cayman islands.... wow. i have never had a better time in my life anywhere else in the world. i spent 2 weeks there last year and i got my divers certification.... their water is probably the best ive seen in the Caribbean. PR is great, but i prefer grand cayman over any island.

you guys should check out st.maarten! its a fucking paradise! and if any of you are going and want a personal luxury suite, let me know. i can totally hook you up (gonna be pricey, but ill hook u up with a good deal).

Peter Dean Rickards takes you deep in to Jamaican weed fields and taking pictures of some of the finer things in life: high grade and hot women.

I agree on Grand Cayman, definitely the best water I have ever seen... its really that amazing. I have also been to St. Maarten and that is a nice laid back island to go to and just relax on the beach. Last time I was there (I can't remember if it was last summer or the summer before) it looked like they just rebuilt everything by the port, it was really nice. I would definitely like to go back there again.
