I wish they would build the turbo 2002. Best car in the whole bunch.

The 2002 is a very cool car. I'm sure BMW feels the same. Don't they get tired of pitching their "small" cars to be the successor of the 2002? They did it with the 1 series (and I personally do not feel it was a rightful 'resurrection' of the 2002) and they seem to be doing it with the 2 series/M2 again...and it's not looking like it will be a successful take on a 'current' 2002. Don't get me wrong, I think both the 1er (obviously) and the 2er are great cars.

They really should just leave the legends alone until they make something that truly embodies what the 2002 was. The FRS/BRZ/GT86 is nearly a proper successor for the great AE86. (Nearly = because it's not a pure Toyota car.)

M2 is gorgeous. The Ford GT is plain bonkers.

Yeah.. I had exactly the same thought..!
Especially since the M2 isnt really a slim baby.. the cars weight is 3,461 lbs and in that sense in no way comparable with the 2002. I wonder why BMW didnt invest some more effort to reduce the weight of the car.. ?! The know-how with CFRP (Carbon) is there right?!?!?! Just imagine how the performance of the car would have benefit from less weight..

On the other hand I really like how BMW reconnects their new cars with their history.. I barely see other auto makers doing that at major auto show!

Thank you very much! Thats very nice to hear and makes up for getting up at 05:00 a.m. in the morning to be one of the first on the showfloor at 07:00 a.m. to make nice pictures without or with as less people as possible around..

Really hope bmw does more to differentiate the new G 5er.

Thanks again for the pictures!
Same here... they both, C- and E-Class look SOO similar.. just for fun I made this picture. Unfortunately the angle is not 100% the same but you see more similarities than differences ! They are both plug-in hybrids

Sadly, I feel that the only reason why they connect back to their great, old cars is to simply boost hype for the new car in addition to making a stupid attempt at being poetic.

Again, one can only dream of BMW actually making a ballsy move of creating a true successor via the M2...M2 CSL hopefully delivers, right? 400hp, 3000lbs or less, resculpted fenders that actually flare out a-la 1M (not that I hate the M2's current fenders)?

(I still like my idea of an S65 powered, aggressive, and light E89 Z4M better.)

Great photos. Thanks for sharing.

For my taste, the BMW look amazing and the Audi and Mercedes not so much. The Audi's grills look like electric razors to me. Not interested. I liked the outgoing E Class better than the new one.

The Porsches look good but then they always do.

I'm sure I'll cross shop next time but BMW still looks very good to me. Certainly not leaving the brand because of 1 year take-away of free maintenance with no compelling (to me) competition.

New Q60. Boring. I was hoping for more. 400hp new motor was a good start but letdown.
New Lexus LC500 concept. Did not outdo the LFA its spiritually succeeding.
New Continental. Boring big-body sedan with awful door handles
Buick Avista concept. Stupid. Pontiac should be alive and Buick dead.
Merc SL550. FAKE ASS SIDE GRILLS FROM AUTOZONE. I actually laughed
Surprising, coming from someone with a 1 series - interiors don't get any worse than that.
