Audi CEO arrested

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-v...-idUSKBN1JE0R3

Curious if Mercedes Ceo will be arrested as well since a few weeks ago they found proof that they were doing the same.

I read on a TDI forum that essentially the defeat software came pre-loaded on the ECU from Bosch.

In any case I'm waiting to see what happens to BMW if anything. IIRC BMW has until early August to respond to the US class-action lawsuit.

It did, but it was intended for testing/development only and Bosch explicitly told them not to use it in production.

Wouldn't stop a huge award for "damages".

"Volkswagen has admitted that it rigged millions of diesel engines to cheat on emissions tests."

I think there will be more arrests soon

This is indicative of my current problem with VW products. The company has not shown remorse and a willingness to address the corruption at the top. The company needs a complete makeover of its leadership and this one person at a time, slow march, is the worst way to deal with the problem.

If the company simply removed the top leadership, and replaced it with more personnel either from outside or from positions inside with no reporting relationship to the default coding, the company would recover much more quickly.

Arresting the culprits is a good start, but what's next? Make the jail-birds sniff diesel exhaust pipes for 25 years?

The entire VW senior management team probably knew about it and have been counting on the German government for protection. They're probably very nervous now, but still hoping the government will want to move on as quickly as they do - before this blows up into an even bigger scandal - such as finding that this was a deliberate, calculated decision by Germany's largest company to illegally pollute the world.

That's what needs to happen to all the American corporations that defraud and harm the general public. A meager financial fine is not going to deter foul practices.
