You people CRACK. ME. UP.
You all realize that the term 'supercar' is a target that moves nearly every year -- and it's a term that means almost nothing now? In fact, it's been superseded by another term: hypercar. All 'supercar' means nowadays is something that has high performance limits and that contains state-of-the-art go-fast technology. 'State-of-the-art' does NOT mean 'fastest' or 'lightest' or 'mostest horsepowers! Unnnnh!'. It means the cutting edge. And I'm sorry to those who want an ICE-only super-duper-hyper-mega anything: the state-of-the-art is electricity in the powertrain. Even Ferrari, Porsche, and Bugatti (among others) see this. In 2018, the only companies building so-called 'supercars' without electrified powertrains are the ones that can't afford it. What does that tell you?

The most beautiful car EVER made by ANYONE, in my opinion is the Pagani Huayra or the new McLaren Senna for that matter.

There are too many things with the i8 that make it unappealing. First the i3 and i8 aren’t even modular in the sense that CLAR is—meaning that BMW’s going to find somewhere to achieve cost savings (who would’ve ever thought that the next M3 will share the same chassis as the X5?), it's overly complex, it has controversial (some would say polarizing) styling, it has front wheel drive in electric mode, it has a 3 cylinder ICE, it has fake engine sound inside and apparently on the outside with speakers, and, let’s face it, would you honestly want to own an i8 out of warranty? Would your local body shop even be able to work on the CFRP if you were to get in an accident? For this kind of money, I’d rather own an actual exotic a few years old.

BMW has been sitting in on the WEC hypercar rules talks that have been going on with most of the major manufacturers and the organizing committee. Maybe this new car is going to be developed for the new 2021 regulations which includes hybrid powerplants.
Some of the renderings posted previously look similar to what is being suggested for the new WEC category. https://www.motorsport.com/wec/news/...ashed/3196324/ |
