EV's are new enough that not everyone outside of car circles even know what a Tesla is.

Maybe, but there should be a few clues before you get to the gas station....like no fuel gauge to tell you that you are in need of gas, how about no engine running, silent or maybe who ever lent you the car giving you a bit of instruction that it's an EV......or maybe a blonde moment.
