since it's an experimental car, I am going to wait for the real electric 5 series and see its weight

That is unlikely given that the i3 and i3s are not counted as separate models today:

Model changeover has limited the current BMW Group electrified lineup to five models including the BMW i3, BMW i8 and i8 Roadster, BMW 530e, and MINI Countryman plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

It is important to keep in mind that BMW is tooling factories and refining their supply chain to allow for electric drive in any vehicle in the coming decade. Just as there are PHEV models across the lineup today (aforementioned lull in US availability notwithstanding), there may very well be BEV models across the lineup in relatively short order (2021-2023).
