BTC is VERY easy to track, as well as most crypto. Either way you need to cash out the crypto at an exchange, so they just follow the crypto trail to the exchange and then find out who cashed out their btc/crypto.

You would still need a Digital Wallet. These days....crypto is more pseudo-anonymous than as before in the past.
They can track it if they want to bad enough. Maybe things are different now as I haven't played with them in awhile. I actually made some decent money in bitcoin but I chickened out and dumped it way too early. If I would have had the balls to stay in longer, I would probably be retired right now. But I will say that it payed of the remainder of my mortgage at the time. So I can't complain!

I remember reading something years ago about incorrectly deposited funds being taken out of the country. Can't remember all details and how it was deposited. But it was not theirs and they made off.

Nope, not your cash; just like an email that's inadvertantly sent to you with material information intended for someone else. Banks will unwind the cash settlement in "good value" meaning that it was never actually held in the first place. If you spend any of it, you're liable for the full amount plus any accrued interest.

Well, suspect you'll have to find a way to move it to a financial institution that the US doesn't have leverage over. Also, you'll need to find a country that is unwilling to extradite you back to the US.
So... Cuba maybe? North Korea? |
