For sure, I'd only consider the BEV version only, those are the ones that actually seem to be going for cheaper as it seems people want the range extender?

And you bring a great point too. As I mentioned, my commute is less than 10 miles. Yesterday, it was very low 30's with high winds, and my Z4M which runs on 10W60 motor oil barely made it to operating temp by the time I got to work.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm more interested in electric cars that are affordable (and reliable) with range of 120-150 miles. No interest in them when they're $70k+
Get an electric car, you'll love it.

I've had 3 new i3's already, and the lease on my 3rd is ending this year. Absolutely brilliant little cars. It was my main commuter before the pandemic and I started working from home, but it was a joy to drive each time. A light RWD hatchback with quick steering and instant torque? Superb. Looks like a goofball, but drives like a hot hatch. I happen to also really love the spacious and modern interior. Pairs well with my M3 CS, I take the i3 everywhere I don't want to go with the M3: tight parking lots, places with valet, the grocery store, home depot, walmart, places with awful potholes etc.

Alas, I think 3 i3's is enough and I'm ready for a change. I only wished there was an updated i3 with a new design, and maybe I would be in my 4th. Plus I am no longer commuting, so the need for a commuter is gone. I still want another vehicle option in my garage besides my beater, the M3, and the wife's SUV, just not sure what to go with next.

Thanks for the great feedback. That's more or less what my use for it would be as well. So you'd say they genuinely feel quick off the line?

I was browsing on Autotrader and saw a few 2018 i3S for $18k already. They only had like 23k miles on them too

Torque is instant and it feels less guilty than my loud screaming M3. What I mean is, no one can hear it, so if I floor it to shoot a gap, it's not as obnoxious as a loud burbling M3 driving like a stereotypical dick bimmer.

2021 Porsche Taycan base model gets its official EPA ratings

Official EPA range figures are out for the 2021 Porsche Taycan. We’re not talking about the Turbo or the 4S here — range figures for those models are already available. This news blast concerns the base (rear-drive-only) Taycan, which is simply called “Taycan” with no qualifiers.

We drove the base Taycan last month, and while it’s not the missile that the Turbo and Turbo S are, it could very well be all the Taycan you need. The differentiation in range figures between the various Taycan versions isn’t all that great, and it’s the same story on the base Taycan. A standard battery pack car with its 79.2 kWh pack is rated for 200 miles. And a car with the Performance Battery Plus (93.4 kWh pack) will go 225 miles, per the EPA. That puts the base Taycan’s max range just 2 miles below the 4S when equipped with the bigger battery pack (227 miles). A Turbo will go 212 miles, and the Turbo S, 201 miles.

There’s a big caveat to all of these ratings, though. Each time we’ve tested a Taycan’s range, it has exceeded the EPA estimate by a wide margin. Porsche has had ACMI independently test all of the different versions of the Taycan, and they came to similar conclusions as us: The EPA numbers represent far less range than what you’ll experience in real world driving.

As for the ACMI numbers on the base Taycan, a standard battery version was tested at 252 miles, and the Performance Battery Plus at 282 miles. Those figures are significantly higher than the EPA estimates, but we wouldn’t be surprised if future range tests prove them accurate.

The base Taycan starts at a much more attainable $81,250 base price versus the expensive 4S, Turbo and Turbo S (don’t forget about the $7,500 tax credit). Adding in the bigger battery and its additional range raises the price by $5,780. This version of the Taycan is available to order now and arrives here in spring.
