Santa Barbara (actually Goleta, one town to the north) is a center for infrared imaging and detector development with several large aerospace companies doing this work. Raytheon, Lockheed and a few others have operations there.

would be great if you can throw some other names out so i can look into them more. i'm in the finance department so it doesn't really matter to me what type (tech, aerospace and etc) company i get into.
