03/04 SVT Cobra or Built N55/Transmission

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to get everyone's 2 cents. What would be a better direction, getting a 03/04 SVT Cobra or building the N55 and doing a closed deck conversion and building the trans? Let me know your thoughts!

well what are your goals, just something with more horsepower? Do you want something that handles well also or just a straight line beast?

My 2004 Cobra was my favorite car I’ve ever owned. I’ve tried to but it back from the person I sold it to multiple times. I don’t think it has changed value since 2004.

The turbo charged BMW's have lot's of potential for not a lot of money if you can perform the work, and you'll have lower fuel cost than a comparably built naturally aspirated SVT. The BMW's however sure require a lot of difficult maintenance along the way due to more complex engine design. If you can manage the fuel cost and if less maintenance time is appealing I would recommend staying with the naturally aspirated applications. You can get an SVT handling comparably close to BMW models hosting an N55. I own two modified 335's and can tell you their not as easy to work on as my Supercharged Challenger, and they require many more tools. Enjoy them all equally until they require a repair. Would you keep the BMW if you purchase the Mustang?

Very different animals imo, that's a hard decision to help you make. My vote is for the 03-04 Cobra because i've always really enjoyed those vehicles, hold value really well and nice examples will continue to bring good/better money imo.

Cars are awful investments, but it's nice to not lose your ass if you needed to sell something that's coming up on 17-18yrs old now (wild!)

All these comments are really insightful. The terminator has the supercharger and Manley rods from factory. I've always wanted something really raw and a V8 but my 435i is paid off and can be built to just as fast or faster. Not to mention a low mileage terminator is hard to find.

I loved my 2004 SVT Cobra...Until I wrecked it driving like an asshat. It was never the same.

My good buddy had a mildly built terminator with 500+ hp.

Very cool car. Also one of the worst interiors I have ever been in. Lotta good and a lotta bad with that car.

Both options are cool, but i'd mildly lean towards the Cobra as there's a much smaller chance of that blowing up in your face and being a big ordeal.

It's a hard decision. To make those cars look good they need a lot.
