Tire Size M240 vs M340
I'm curious why the 22- M240ix comes with 245/35/19 tires when spec'ed with performance wheel/tire option but the M340i when ordered with the same option only comes with 225/40/19 tires? Is this to artificially make the "small" coupe handle better than the "family sedan"?

Overall the tire sizes are very comparable. The 225/40/19 does have a 4 mm side height increase which should give it a little softer ride.

225s on a sports sedan of that size is obvious corner-cutting, most likely for cost to keep overall price down. A car that heavy with that intent shouldn't have 225s. 255 would be more fitting. The problem is the wheels themselves would need to be wider, you don't want a wider tire stretching over a skinnier wheel, that creates bead roll-over and decreases sidewall stiffness for cornering, etc. The heavier the car, the more this is an issue. The manufacturers realize that 95% of people care about wheel diameter only, so they make flashy large diameter wheels and basically "who cares?" about the width and actual performance.

This looks like a new add to take advantage of the front end grip in the chassis. |
