build date vs registration date - 8 months difference?

so i have a 5 that build date july 21 and registered march 22 and they call it a 22 car

the sales person says it's normal and takes 8 months to get around the planet from the day they start the build in Germany

but he doesn't know i have 3 with build date may 21 and registered july 21 so it doesn't take 8 months

any ideas on why the 2 cars are so different?

Different cars, different factories, different recalls, etc. If it took that long to get where it was going after production, that is par for the course these days. Supply Chain Issues, etc. I have worst stories I could tell you but I just don't have the time. It is what it is.

Did he say that with a straight face? Christopher Columbus could have delivered a car much faster.

Mine is like that too. Built in (like) Sept 2016, first registered in (like) April 2017. It happens.

How about a 2022 Z4 built in July of 2022 that just arrived at our dealership in February 2023 and has yet to be sold/registered? The customer cancelled and already has his replacement 2023 model which arrived in the US the same week the 2022 finally reached our dealership. Remember the thread about cars sent to the East Coast from Germany that BMW shipped to California on purpose and then sent east by freight train? This was one of them.
