Indeed. ‘Go buy your own.’

As most old cars, I bet this one is also a POS to drive. From steering, brakes, suspension, etc, all shite. But gorgeous ! I’d love a kit with modern mechanics.

+1. He's certainly not wasting it. What would they rather he did; submerge it in a vat of formaldehyde? Drive it as is until it turns to dust? Is he even allowed to put in fresh oil? Surely original fuel is "part of its history" and shouldn't be burned?

Literally anything he does alters the car, so he may as well restore it so that it can last longer. Sometimes documentation is the only rational form of preservation.

Also it's his car. If he wanted to set it on fire to toast marshmallows, that'd be his choice too.

Ridiculous, how are you going to preserve that rust hiding under the body shell and why would you want to?
These collectors, all money and no common sense. The owner did exactly what was required considering the PO's lack of maintenance.

I think there is an argument for both sides. But was this car "good enough" to preserve?
I think not. It was not in such a state that it could be used.
When it's in fully working condition and structually sound and only has a few blemishes than it might be different.

But in the end it's up to the owner.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

LOL a whole lot of this. But that said I’m in the restore camp. I don’t get leaving things broken and shoddy. I don’t like cars kept in bubbles and then 20 years later having 26 miles on them. Drive it. Fix it. Restore it. Enjoy it. Or buy paintings.

What an ignorant statement.

I bet there is more character in 1 mile of driving this than 1000s of miles in modern appliances they call sports cars now.

These were about the driver putting in effort, not a computer causing instant acceleration. Respect history and you can learn something!

Jimi Hendrix owned a Goodwood Green 1967 Corvette. If someone could buy that car with Jimi's sweat, then sure, leave it alone. But a car that has deteriorated because of time/dust/bird droppings/mice/etc, please, restore it at all cost.

Ehhhhhh I don’t know man. Most collectors out there that I’ve met will say don’t meet your heros LOL. Hell, F1 owners are now coming out and saying how awful it is to drive. So I get what the OP meant.

That said I love the oldies so I want them. Restored of course.

But to each their own. Some like blondes, some brunettes, and some red-heads. One of the best things about car culture is that each person can get something different from their cars. It's one of the reasons I own an M2 and an Exige, because there is literally no single car on the planet that can give me the best parts of both. I have a buddy with a GTR that dreams of my steering, and I dream of having his launch control. I think both can be appreciated fully if you open your mind to it.
