I drove my E70 on the same road 4 hours before the mess on the video.
And a week before got rear-ended by a similar driver on a nearby street.

Back on the topic.
I commute between SF and Tahoe once a week, sometimes twice a week for last 3 years.
snow season - E70 35d (26mpg max), all other times 335d (36mpg max)

While I like some DIY, but with ~30Kmi/year I would not mind charging an EV at home and skip gas station, at least summer time.

The diesel is >$5/gal in CA (last year was as high as $7/gal).
Electricity here is not cheap either, but with long commute EV cost/mile (including depreciation, maintenance and fuel, excluding vehicle price) is something to look into.

I am not ready to make a switch to EV - I love my E-fleet, hate sticking out EV monitor and not comfortable to dump $100K on R1S.

I guess my 2c that for those who drive >2Kmi/month may actually save some "time" by not going to gas station (and public charger) by charging EV at home and additional "time" for reduced EV maintenance.

For me, fuel station is 15 minutes divert to get quality diesel, then 5min fill-up, every 500mi

On the other side of spectrum, I scored large pothole near Phillips last week.
The front E70 AD strut alone will be $1K.
In case of EV it will be more and I'll have to scramble for parts.

Some people get 3-4 off the factory tesla charger that comes with the car however some late model year ‘22 and later models didn’t get one. I didn’t get one. So I bought a Lectron off Amazon.

It was 130 bucks. And that gives me 6 miles per hour consistently. Sometimes 7 miles per hour.

It depends on the car but yes charging at 110v is much slower than a 220v charger (even if it is only a 15 or 20 amp 220v outlet)...

The tesla model is is a BIG car (4500-4800lbs depending on the battery).... Notice that he model 3 gets more miles on the same charge and a chevy bolt or other smaller EV gets even more.

Cost is easy, what do you pay for power at home? At my house max is $0.08kwh. So my long range model 3 has an 82kwh battery. So to charge from 0 to 100% would be $6.56 at most.

As for charge it depends how much you drive. I don't drive much or go that far very often so the standard 110v charger is fine for me. Also keep in mind you can get a different connector (the part that plugs into the wall) for the standard charger that can go into a 220v dryer outlet. So if you have a dryer outlet near your garage that is another option that doesn't cost much other than the cost of the adapter. That for me charges at around 24-25 miles per hour. So that might be another option. Last is level 2 charger professionally installed.

Wow, this is pretty low. It's also coming to US as well. Each state is subject to submit an off-peak EV charging program under the Inflation Reduction Act. I'm sure electric companies working extra hard trying to figure out how to still screw us... but will see, will see.

Yeah about the same for me. Sure beats paying 80 bucks for 93.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Our tesla charging at home costs about $5 for 200 miles of driving. At a super charger in a big city the prices aren’t much less than gas, more expensive if you consider the time used. The cheapest we’ve ever seen was about 3x the cost of charging at home.

We rarely take the car out of town and if we do it’s just to Orlando. 140 mile drive and the hotels we stay at have free charging. I drove it to GA once, 9 hours according to google maps. 4 charging stops(bicycles on back killed efficiency) which added almost 2 hours to the trip.

Supercharging is great, every other charger besides that have been hit or miss. If you buy an EV besides tesla I would plan to have it be a local car only. I love it for my wife. No maintenance, no fuel stops with 2 kids in car seats, smooth/quiet ride and if she gets distracted with the kids the autopilot in most areas is trust worthy. It’s not to be used everywhere, people exaggerate how great the system is but it’s much better than what everyone else offers. We’ll be getting her a MB ev next.

I just drove down from NC (about 750 miles). I started with around 90% charge and did not stay at a hotel with charger this time (I usually do). I supercharged the entire way down and spent $56.78. So still less than putting premium in the Cayenne, but not super cheap. I actually enjoy going in the model 3 especially when doing it by myself. Autopilot is great for these long hwy trips and I honestly don't mind stopping to charge. It breaks up the trip and forces me to stretch my legs. Most of the stops are like 15 min. If I'm having lunch I will let it go longer maybe 30 min. I think I stopped a total of 4 times to charge on the way down.

Best car I’ve ever owned, prefer it to three M cars. Fast, fun, quiet, great fit and finish, looks great (Vossen wheels and lowered). Interior is fantastic, tech is top notch, been 100% reliable. I’d say perfect! Buy used, they’ve fallen a lot lately.

Don’t need to buy used, they dropped the price by like 20-25k

A plaid is 104k now. Who needs an m5 when you can get a 9.2 daily driver that’ll wipe out everything you’ll ever see on the road.
